Hi there, My New LLMD has prescribed Bicillin LA for me. The nurse at the office showed my husband how to give the shot but he has a bit of a needle phobia, added to which he travels a lot for work and there will be times that he won't be able to do it. I have read in other posts here that some people inject themselves using the ventroglut method. Would anyone who has done this be able to give me some direction as to how to do it this way? Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Wow, Ellen101, what great idea! Still, I have a hard time thinking about getting the shot, let alone doing one for myself! Did you administer them to yourself right from the beginning and did you do it lying down or standing up? Perhaps it's a lot easier than I imagine.

My husband did them at first but he kept hitting a nerve. It wasn't his fault unfortunately I have hypersensitive nerves in the gluteal muscles. I believe it was Sammy who suggested the ventrogluteal muscle as it is much less painful and you can do them yourself. I gave them to myself while standing up. I iced the area before and afterwards.

I use the VG muscle. At least I think I do... That's the plan anyway. Anyone know the approx. size of the area where it is best to hit? Is it the size of a quarter? Half dollar? Larger?
If not in the VG muscle - then what other muscle might be hit? I know I get in a muscle - just sometimes have my doubts I hit a bull'e eye (sorry). If outside the target range of the VG and obviously not hitting bone - what the heck am I injecting into?
