Hi folks, who knows about neck cracking? A few moths ago my neck stated cracking every time I turn my head.. It really happened overnight, I woke up one day and it was like that. It's really annoying and loud, I've started to get really bad headaches at staring at the base of my skull where the cracking comes from,(I've always had headaches, but these are a new kind)- like a sharp pain shoots up to my brain- like a stabbing feeling.. Any feedback on this? Recently I've heard lyme patients should not have their necks adjusted by a chiropractor.. Tell me more about this?

Hi Naomi,
Yes, I have this also.
I think it is called crepitus. (sp?)
When I lay in bed and turn my head, or push it into the pillow, my neck cracks like a deck of cards being shuffled. My whole spine is like this.
I can't tiptoe around anymore. I sound like a firecracker. haha.
Lyme and co have a tendency to inflame our nerves and can sometimes cause increased pressure in our spinal fluid.
Abrupt turns or twists of the neck can be very very dangerous for those with inflammation of the spinal chord and/or increased pressure.
I have not found a solution for this yet. This is a great question, I am looking forward to reading the answers.
Hopefully others will chime in soon.

Cracking is likely inflammation. Really common with lyme, especially the neck but overall too.
Treatment causes massive inflammation in me but I have it even without treatment. I use supplements to keep it under control.
Good idea to talk to your lyme doctor and see if they can recommend something.

I have also experienced the neck cracking sounds and my head feeling very tight at the base, giving me a dull, all over kind of headache. Maybe kind of as if my head was in a vice. Magnesium can be very helpful and when I started on Malarone for Babs, the head pressure disappeared quickly.
I would not recommend a chiropracter adjusting the neck as I tried that ( before I knew I had Lyme ) and it did NOT help but maybe even made it worse.

I had this, too, neck crepitus with my acute phase of Lyme. It eventually went away with abx.
It would crackle like a bowl of rice crispies in milk when I turned my head. I also had terrible aching at the base of my neck. My warm "bed buddy" sock helped with that ache.
Treat the Lyme, and it will go away.

I had this also but after colloidal silver and LDM-100 went away... at least back down to my ususal amount of crackling. Ive needed chiropractic most of my life... and although chiropractic may not make it go away with lyme it will still assit in keeping the vertebra in line. Seems to me that if there is a lot of inflammation vertebra will tend to have more problems.

Thank you all, Chiropractic adjustments have always made me feel soooo much better! I have not had one since i was diagnosed with lyme because I heard its a no no for lyme patients or at least a no no for the neck.. I did not know why that was , so i wanted to ask. I have read in the, "Why Cant I Get Better Book" -that a cracking neck it one of the hallmarks of lyme. Does any one have more info on that?
I am very aware of my body so I would have noticed it creeping up. I just wonder how my neck went from no cracking to cracking like Greta said, like a deck of cracks every time I turn my head. thank you all for your feed back and helpful information !

I have found chiropractic treatments to be helpful esp. for my lower back. I just requested that my neck be left alone and I made out fine.

I get my neck adjusted all the time. Problem is, it doesn't hold. I also get cranial adjustments, occipital adjustments, and TMJ adjustments with the chiropractor using an arthrostim, which is like a rat-a-tat hand-held device.
I too would be interested in how anyone has gotten their neck adjustments to hold!
