I have an elbow and knee injury from highschool football that is starting to bother me again and my doctor wants me to get cortisone shots in them. Isn't that a big no no?

Yes. It will lower your immune response. Definitely a big no, no and will mess up your system in terms of fighting off lyme and co's.

Most llmds say no
I can tolerate topical steroids
But if i get even a small shot i am down for days...total crash
Last time they gave me one in pt and i couldnt go anywhere for 10 days...barely got out of bed
That shot was into soft tissue
I believe a combo of 3 sots destroyed both my knees

You may want to look into anti-inflammatories instead, such as turmeric, grapeseed extract, boswellia 5-loxin, and bromelain for your elbow used in therapeutic doses. It could very well be that Lyme and treatment are stirring things up.

Yes a big NO. But... If it could help your quality of life greatly. You could consider with caution (just my opinion.)
But if you do consider you should definitely be on strong abx... Before during and after.
I had a shot in my foot while treating. I was on 3 abx. I got an entire body rash (Lyme? Or allergy?) and I had a pretty bad monthly flair for two cycles after... But, even with the set backs, it got me off the couch for a month. And the impact that had on my attitude was worth it. I can't take anti inflammatories. Even curcumin... So this was a needed mood boost.

I wouldn't, even topical. It caused me permanent eye damage.
Doctors are using a new drug called Pennsaid for knee pain. It's a topical nsaid, so it doesn't have to be taken orally.

- Amen. I would be very afraid to get a shot of cortisone even though I have enough pain to warrant one.

Lyme does seem to like old sports injuries. I just toughed it out and avoided steroids and all pain killers altogether. Most are tough on the liver anyway.
It will pass with treatment. My joint pain and stiffness was the first to resolve, and I only have neuro issues and fatigue left.
