Topic: my insurance company refuses to give me armour thyroid

last week it took me 7 hours to find out how to get a wheelchair
I have prescriptions for these things and have always gotten them with no problem the changes in January I really messing me up here
are others going through this I guess call to see and find out how much they will charge me but insurance will have nothing to do with it
is nature thyroid the same thing...are there other substitutes the insurance company told me to ask the doctor but I think he will just put me on synthroid or something and I understand that is not what I need

What reason did they give you for this refusal? Not in their formulary? Doesn't seem like expense should have much to do with it as synthroid or whatever are probably about the same cost. Just guessing here.

I dont understand how these changes are helping...ppl with no insurance cant get it and ppl with good insurance cant get what they need
I feel like who ever is making these decisions just wants to kill me
I would have no problem paying a little more so others with no insurance could be covered...but the changes are hurting everyone and not helping anyone

- It's part of the plan. They've been pushing on the Armour Thyroid thing for a few years now.. making it harder to get.
"They" don't want the public to "be well." Big Pharma makes a lot of money off of sick people.

I was hoping ppl would tell me other names of replacements for it so i could check on all at the same time-i will also check to.see howmuch it will cost pay for it without prescription
How do i know which are synthetic?
Yhank you for your answers-im dealing with another health thingnow-a skin disease brought on by autoimmune disease that can cause cancer if not treated long term with a steroid ointment
I already use topical steroids for my eyes...
This all gets more complicated as time goes on

LP-I take natural dessicated thyroid by prescription and my LL says it is the same as Armour.
It is measured in mg
I am really pleased with it.
Synthroid is not good in the long run for most hypothyroid folks.

Wow-ty for this info but i dont know how i willfigure out what dose of what brand-my primary will probably write what i want...but if i have trouble he wont know how to fix it
A really good alternative doc figurrd out my dosage a long time ago and it was hard...many changes and tests
Im not sure what i will do
I need 30 mg of armour 1 time a day

When I first got put on Armour my insurance company refused to pay for it. Which upset me so my pharmacy said they would look into exactly why my insurance company was refusing to pay.
It turned out that my co-pay which is $9.00 per prescription was more than the total cost of what the Amour for a month which was $7.00.
So now I just pay for it myself for $7.00 a month.
Maybe you should ask your pharmacy to look into it for you.

This is true - insurance not covering. You could ask the manufacturer, Forest, if they have any patient assistance program. I think they do.

Nature Throid and Armour are not very expensive. I have had Costco or Walmart fill a 90 prescription for me and it was about $26 for three months.
Check the pricing at local pharmacies.

lpkayak, do see how much Armour is without coverage. For some reason, I am thinking it is not expensive. I hope that is true.
Armour has both T3 and T4, Synthroid (synthetic) has only T4. Can your doctor order Armour brand only?

My 'script' for Armour from my LLND was quite reasonable... FAR less than name-brand Synthroid I was on. (I swear they're pricing themselves out of the market!) But I'm just using the "90 for $10" generic deal at WallyWorld & my PCP is O.K. with it.(11 cents/ day!)

Ipkayak you asked - where do you get it for 7?
I get my Amour Thyroid from of all places CVS Pharmacy. They do have a drive thru which honestly saves my life sometimes because the trip up there is about all I can manage some days.
My script is for one 30 mg tablet twice a day. I pay $7.00 for the month. So I guess that means 60 pills for $7.00.

The good thing about Armour is that your insurance does not have to get involved, it is dirt cheap as far as meds go. Just need to work with your MD to get the script and dosing down.

My ins. won't pay for Synthroid costing me 30.00 a month but they will pay for generic with deductible. I can't make it on generic, it doesn't work for me. Total Thyroidectomy.
I think these guys have a racket going to just deny everyone meds they need.

When one's health insurance won't pay for a preffered name-brand thyroid medicine... that one's doctor says is required for proper care, we are in sad shape... as far as our health care industry's concerned!
As for hypothyroid folks who can't "convert" (T4 to T3) as well as they should, "Armour" should be The drug of choice.

I got an email a few weeks ago stating that the company that makes Armour has been bought by another company. So hopefully, this new company won't change things and won't increase the price. I sure hope they continue to make it.

They probably won't change it as it's just a processed form of pig thyroid gland product.
But at to price?... It'd be no surprise they'll "up" it as it's competing with a more $$ product... save the generic deal at WallyWorld.

This is so wierd...i swear they will kill me by making me run in circles...a friend finally took the pre to walmart-the doc had to change pre 3 x for me to get cheapest price and i was on phone hours finding what drugstore is cheapest
So i said i was paying cash-it was 18. But they put it thru insurance anyway and it was only 11.
I know with my cognitive and mobility issues there wull be a timewhen i just cant do this
