My lyme symptoms are at their worst right now: severe migraines, neck stiffness, body aches, clenching teeth, eye pressure, fatigue and insomnia, crying spells, speech problems, ringing/pressure in ears, etc.
I feel like my brain is going to explode, and I keep getting my husband to squeeze the back of my neck to get blood flowing. Not sure how much more I can take of this.
My rosephin was increased to 2 grams on Friday. Still on the doxy. Is this just a bad herx? Full moon? Lyme meningitis?
Other than detox methods discussed on New to Lyme section, anything work great for head problems? I wish I could dunk my entire head in Epsom Salt.
I am also on Celebrex and am not supposed to be taking extra ibuprofen or acetaminophen. But I have been very desperate this week and am popping them like candy.

i know a lot of people have the head pressure thing and hope they will come by soon. this is kind of a slow time.
that is one thing i never had to deal with. my neck has been really tight lately along with other sx that i dont usually blame on lyme. maybe it is parasites acting up with the full moon.
hope you feel better soon...i think you will hear from others pretty soon

Sounds like a herx.
Do you know about alka seltzer gold? Said to help reduce herx reaction.
Taking enough magnesium? B vitamins?

My doctor always allowed me to back off the meds when I herxed hard. It's safer to do that, as a bad herx can land you in the hospital and then you LOSE ground, not gain.
Try anything you can to detox, including lemon water.

Yes happens to me too around flare week when I am on IV.
Be careful with celebrex and ibu/aceto, makes the head pressure worse. It's called overuse headache-I've done this to myself more than a few times.
Things that help me immensely:
IV glutathione. -Can you talk to your LL and do this at home on an as needed basis for herxes like this?
-Eno or Alka Selter Gold. 1 tsp eno in a glass water.
-NT-detox by Byron White. Greenandhealthy.com is the cheapest I have found it.
-unsweetened coconut water. Tastes best on ice. Has potassium and magnesium to help electrolytes.
-eat foods natural foods that will make you "poop".
Not kidding. Dried apricots. Prune juice. Even if you give yourself enemas etc. I just read how Phase two detox depends primarily on bile binding to fat based toxins (removed via pooping), and of course other water solulable toxins being excreted in urine.
So if certain foods have a tendency to increase bowel movements in you, try to eat these foods.
The increased fiber will help to pull the toxins out.
-Activated charcoal tablets (cheap at most health food stores) with large glass of filtered water. (away from meds and abx)
-Apple Pectin with large glass of water (away from meds and abx)
An ice gel pack on my neck and head help. I rotate two to keep one cold while I use the other one.
Another LNer mentioned consuming asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts as the sulfur compound help the body to naturally increase glutathione /gsh naturally.
You could maybe try that until you see your doc for some IV glutathione
I'm so sorry you are going through this right now.
I can totally relate to the brain swelling. I find if I can keep my brain cold with a fan and a gel pack, it keeps the migraine pain to a dull 9.
If you seizure you need to seek medical attention/contact your LL office emergency # immediately.
So sorry you are going through this. Swollen brains suck.

I have not tried alka seltzer gold and will definitely get some.
Thanks, GretaM, for taking the time to right all of that stuff down. I'm going to buy "poop" and "suffer-sucking" foods today. I'll be honest that I've been afraid to try some of the stuff everyone else does, like charcoal tablets, but I am quickly changing my mind on that.
I had horrible nightmares last night, too. I'm gonna blame that on warewolf Lyme bugs as well. Is it true that full moons make them worse?
just woke up and the brain pain is not as excruciating. It's still there, but not killing me. At some point I remember tossing my pillow and just lying flat on my back with head on bed.
Again, thank you all for always giving advice when I post something. My husband travels a lot for work and is at a loss as to what to do with me when he is here. Poor guy.

Here are two different versions of what Dr. H recommends for flares:
First, an older version:
Herxheimer reaction (from 2010 Lyme Conference, Dr. H):
Take-home message: DETOXIFY YOUR LYME PATIENTS!
It does NOT matter what antibiotic you give people, they will NOT get better without detoxification
For Herxheimer reactions: 2 Alka-Selzer Gold (no aluminum) in 8 ounces of water with lemon or lime followed by 6-8 capsules of glutathione or 1500 mg of oral liposomal glutathione.
70% will feel better in hours
On the topic of water: Dilution is the solution to pollution. This suggests that in order to help our bodies detoxify, we must drink more water
Try 1st: --Burbur, 10 drops every 10 minutes for 2-3 hours or 10 days until flare resolves --Parsley (same as burbur) --Lemon/lime in H2O sipped through straw 4x/day --Alkaseltzer gold OTC or sodium bicarbonate 4x/day
If above doesn't help, add:
Oral glutathione (Essential Pro) 6-8 caps at once, repeat as needed, up to 3x/day
If no help w/above steps, try: --Pekana drainage 15 drops of each bottle 3x/day --Sydetox 15 drops 2x/day --LDN, as prescribed at bedtime
[end of protocol]
When I was treating lyme, my doctor told me to eat 4 lemons per day. He said that lemons are a natural cleanser of the body. I squeezed them into my water with as much fruit as possible.
DO NOT use bottled lemon juice!
He also told me that water flushes out the body, so drink lots of water.
Lemon water was my ONLY drink during my entire lyme treatment. This way, my flares and herxes were generally mild.
I understand that glutathione suppositories are almost equal to IV glutathione. So, you may want to ask your doctor to prescribe some for you and give them a try at your next flare.
Dr. H says that glutathione opens up the detox pathways.
