Hi everyone, I'm new to the net. I was dxd with sd last year and now i have the lyme dx w/ co-infections. I have been on artemicinin 2capsulesx2 /day, zithro 250mg x2/day, and Mepron 5mlsx2/ Day. I have had no herxing at all, just severe nausea. Has anyone else not herxed on this combo of meds and could it be assumed that dosages should be increased? I would love to hear your experience. Just looking for other!s experience, not med advice I understand.

Hi Sunny,

When I first started treating some infections with other abx combos, I did not herx.

I still has success with the abx combos.

Do you feel better with the ones you are on? Are they lessening your babesia symptoms?

Maybe a moderator could move your post to medical?

Sometimes, our bodies are able to keep up with the amount of endotoxins being released when the bacteria die, and we don't herx too badly. What are you doing for detox?

Thx lyme tutu, i wasnt sure what category i was putting the question into.

Thx Greta. I havent felt a great deal better yet. But i am Sure it will happen. It's only been 3-4 wks. I just got dxd w the lyme and co-infections after searching for answers for 40 years. I also gave the disease to my daughter not knowing i had this. No LLMDs where i am so i had to travel to the northeast. I'm not sure what the success rate is for someone who has been untreated this long. I'm obviously a little impatient. I was hoping for a big herx but i know SDers tend not to herx much. But i hope there is a good success rate for someone who acquired this from birth.

As far as detox, i use the sauna, steam, NAC,epsom salt baths, and a lot of water drinking. Feel free to add other methods of detox that you have found effective.

I also wonder how you know when the bugs have all been eradicated? Any specific tests besides the cd157? Sorry so many questions! Sunny

Sincerely,
Sunny3

Hi Sunny,

I had RMSF, so that was treated right away. It was a great visual indicator of the treatment working... As the treatment went on, the rash went away [Smile] so no herx, but got better.

(too bad all tbd's didn't have indicators like that) haha.

Your detox sounds magnificent! Sweating helps me also. If it is working for you stick with it [Smile]

There are other detox options, but as long as you are feeling good with what you're doing, keep doing [Smile] I like my sauna also.

Lotsa good detox threads on here if you ever want/need more aggressive detox.

If I remember OK, babesia tends to flare every 6 or 7 days... Others will chime in, if I am wrong on this.

Maybe you will herx a bit on your flare days?

I am not sure if there is a test to prove babesia is 100% gone.

I don't think there is a test that indicates whether the lyme bacteria (borellia) is eradicated either.

There is a lab in Germany called InfectoLab, with a test called the Elispot, which claims to be pretty accurate at determining if lyme is well and truly gone in a person, but I am not sure if it is available to us in North America yet.

Anyways, welcome to lymenet [Smile]

A good start for someone new to lyme and its coinfections is the Burrascano Lyme Treatment Guidelines found here:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

The discussion of babesiosis starts on page 22, and treatment is on page 24, including the proper dosages of Mepron, etc.

I suggest you read and study this document to get your education on the diseases you have.

Notice that nausea is a side effect of babs treatment.

I got rid of lyme, babs, and bartonella 8 years ago now. But, I clearly remember that when I was treating babs, I had a horrible babs flare every week like clockwork.

My lyme doctor said that babs has a 7-day cycle and a 14-day cycle. I experienced them both. First the flare every 7 days, and finally when that was about nothing, the flares shifted to every 14 days.

When I no longer had any flare symptoms at all, not even the need to take a brief nap, then we knew I was done treating babesiosis.

My doc had me take the artemesinin on the flare days. So, I took it Friday through Sunday of each week. I believe that you need to take breaks from art or the body will make an enzyme that makes it ineffective.

The most important thing to know about lyme disease is that the doctor is the key to getting rid of this horrendous disease. Can't emphasize that enough. You want a doctor who has cured others of lyme, preferrably at least 3 that you know of.

Many doctors treat lyme disease, but only a very few have ever cured anyone of it.

If you study the Burrascano Guidelines, you will be able to evaluate the treatment you are getting. This way, you will not waste time with doctors who give inadequate treatment. There are many of them.

Here is a good quote on page 24 regarding babesiosis treatment:

"Treatment failures usually are related to inadequate atovaquone levels. Therefore, patients who are not cured with this regimen can be retreated with higher doses (and atovaquone blood levels can be checked), as this has proven effective in many of my patients."

So, just know that if you don't improve, your doctor should check your mepron levels to be sure they are adequate. Many doctors don't know that they can order a blood test for this.

Keep reading and asking questions and we will help you here all we can.

And, not everybody herxes. If you see slow, steady improvement, be happy.

TF, thank you for your note! We think alike! Burascano's notes are what i think is the best info on this disease. Thx for reminding me to read it again! It reinforces that i am on the right path. I truly appreciate all of you veterans on this board. I believe i have a very good LLMD as he has excellent knowledge (is on the LLMD board i recently found out) and was stricken w lyme himself during med school. So hehas atrueunderstanding for sure. I only wish it was more convenient to see him (i have to travel across the country). But it is worth it to save lives.
I am glad to know there is a test to see if the Mepron levels are adequate, if necessary. So far my doc has discovered the Babesia Microti and Ducanti. He has another test going now.
Ididnt realize that the Babesia was cyclical as you and Greta mentioned. Iam assuming that means you will feel worse on those days? That is good info to knw. Right now i havent noticed as i havent had any "sunny days" yet. But i began to notice yesterday that the nausea was beginning to lift, tG! I hope it stays that way as i have completely lost my appetite on the Mepron.

I was worried about the lack of herxing. I was hoping for major ones, as crazy as that sounds, just for confirmation that the meds were working. Thank you again for helping me and all the others. Such good things you all do! I try to pay it forward but i dont have much to offer at this point but soon i hope!

Sincerely,
Sunny3
