I am having a really rough time on Rifampin for this Bart relapse. I haven't slept a full night since I started it 2 weeks ago.
I think it's reducing my Klonopin because it doesn't play well with others. I looked up the symptoms for Benzo withdrawal and it's me to a "T".
I was planning on getting off the Benzo when my health stabilized, but in order to do that you have to reduce the dose very slowly, like 1/4 of a pill at at time. I am only on 1 mg but I think this is really effecting me.
At first I thought it was herxing, but now I think it's Benzo withdrawal. Has anyone been a long term Benzo user and managed to treat with Rifampin? Did you increase your Benzo? I really don't want to do that if I can help it. Thanks guys.

I took Klonopin while on Rifampin. I did gradually have to go up on the dose of Klonopin but I think that as your body gets used to a drug, sometimes you have to increase the dose.
You are right about going slow if you want to get off this drug. You should go down a quarter pill at a time and give it a week before you go down again.
You can have seizures if you get off of it too fast. I was on 3 mg and it took about 8 weeks for me to get off of that.

Happening to me . Did quick 3 g to 2. To 1 to .75 quickly. I was always t to 1.5 until hormones stabilized. Just raised in February. Herxing from ondamed. Went back upto 1 mg today and staying there till I'm done with ondamed.. Then I'll do .25 when more stable. I did do klonopin with rifampin, always 1 to 1.5 mg. might be a bad time to taper.

Yes, when I do Rifampin, I had to do an RX combo to go to sleep. I had horrible insomnia with Rifampin.

I have been on a benzo for a 3 years and have been tapering off it for 7 months.
I am on 1.17mg valium right now, but cannot take many meds because everything is interfering with my taper and putting me into withdrawal.
I desperately need to treat Bart with Rifampin, but I cannot touch Rifampin right now, as it induces all benzos and clears them out of your system causing withdrawal symptoms.
The only way to treat with Rifampin and a benzo is to increase the dose of the benzo to compensate for the faster metabolism of the drug by Rifampin.
I am completely stuck in my Lyme treatment and making no progress due to the withdrawal effects of my benzo.
Even on my very low dose, I get terrible withdrawal symptoms if another drug interferes with the valium.
I have chosen to continue to taper right now and delay treatment, because once withdrawal symptoms begin on a benzo, they will continue until you get off the drug, or increase it.
Its a horrible place to be and I cannot wait to get out of tihs hell!

Oceangirl- that is what's happening to me Benzo withdrawal. It's awful. Between that and Bart, sleep is very elusive. I have made an executive decision to up my Klonopin dose.
I have doubled it but it's still not putting me to sleep for the night. I figure when I get off Rifampin I'll go back to my original dose and then start the taper.
JCarl- I have relapsed Bart 2 times with Septra. I'm starting to think I might be resistant to it now. It might be a good option for oceangirl though.
