Hi,

I need a binder that doesn't pull toxins but rather just absorbs them in the gut. If you're wondering why, this is because (atleast to my knowledge) heavy metals can get redistributed throughout the body from using certain binders (chlorella for example) which can inturn, make some people worse.

I need something milder that will bind just the toxins without pulling other stuff (mercury, etc.). I have apple pectin and beta sitosterol in mind. If anyone has suggestions or/and can further fill me in on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I'm taking Toxin Absorbmax. I built up to 3 pills all together an hour away from everything.

If you want to tackle binding the metals in particular, there are two similar (sadly, both expensive!) products that use very finely ground silica with homeopathic thiols attached to trap and bind the metals in your gut:

i am using Metalsweep by Biopure (formerly Microsilica), the product endorsed by Dr K and the 'same' alternative product is IMD, one of the Quicksilver range.

I am in it for the long haul, so can't say yet how effective Metalsweep is, though I sense that it does do something. Although it is a lot of cash, I use it at less than a baby scoop and usually every other day, so it lasts quite a while.

I should have said that I also use clay and linseed capsules from time to time that also have charcoal, psylllium, apple pectin and herbs in them.

clay is supposed to be good, not sure if just for toxins and not metals, though.

lymeman, where did you get your information that chlorella redistributes metals pulled out of the system?

I read just the opposite. That it takes both the biotoxins and heavy metals out of your system and binds them and then excretes them.

found this in my WORD docs:

"A three-year double-blind metal detoxification study with over 350 people participating was undertaken at a Russian metal foundry, where more than 20 natural compounds were used in trials to remove heavy metals from people who had been exposed at very high levels to four main metals -- antimony, lead, cadmium and arsenic.

What were the results of testing chlorella as a heavy metal detoxification agent? The Russian trial using Broken Cell Wall chlorella combined with cilantro eliminated ALL heavy metals, including mercury! With no reported side-effects!

Also this from same source:
"So chlorella first and foremost will help your body eliminate unwanted metals and toxins. But it does more than that.

Chlorella is uniquely designed to not bind to the minerals your body naturally needs to function optimally. It does not bind to beneficial minerals like calcium, magnesium, or zinc. It's almost as if chlorella knows which metals belong in your body and which chemicals need to be removed.

Supplementing with chlorella is like unleashing a tiny army inside your body to fight the battle of removing toxins from your tissues and ushering them back outside your body where they belong."

Chlorella has been my primary detox for dying Bb toxins for 8 months now, and I also had a lot of mercury in my system from many mercury fillings (filling now removed). It must work to remove Bb toxins, since almost nothing makes me herx now.

Healthforce Nutritionals has a product as well that you might want to look at. I haven't used it, haven't had that need, but have found some of their other products to be very good quality.

Thanks for the suggestions..

Nancy,

I've heard this about the chlorella from some other people accross the net. According to most of them, they go by something called the Cutler protocol which basically states that heavy metals should only be removed with ALA along with something else (I forget what)

and that anything besides those can not always "strongly" attach to the metals, therefore dropping them off in other parts of the body. This could explain why I've read that a few people have felt worse after starting chlorella.

Keep in mind, I'm not speaking directly against chlorella, neither do I suggest anybody stop taking it. I'm using it as an example because it seems the most common binder to me.

The only thing I would actually suggest (based on my knowledge) is to start off slowly with it. I personally would rather deal with lyme toxins alone separately from heavy metals to begin with atleast.

The Cutler protocol is premised on the idea that ALA and DMSA stay in the body for a few hours, so they have to be constantly replenished so that the mercury they pull out isn't reabsorbed in your intestines and recirculated into your blood.

The traditional mercury chealation schedule uses DMSA and ALA three times per day coupled with an intestinal binder to prevent mercury from recirculating. So both protocols are doing pretty much the same thing.

I've tried both and haven't noticed much difference in how I feel if I take the DMSA and ALA every 3-4 hours or every 8 hours. The Cutler protocol requires you to take pills every few hours and wake yourself up in the middle of the night just to avoid using a binder. Personally, I'd rather take a binder and sleep through the night.

Also, I notice a huge difference when I use a binder vs. when I don't. For me, at least, I think a lot of my mercury issues are in my gut. MetalSweep from Biopure is far and away the best binder, though it's also far and away the most expensive.

For me, it's absolutely worth it. Bentonite clay (also from Biopure) is weaker than MetalSweep, but it's still much better than chlorella.

So basically, the Cutler protocol just spreads out your dosages in order to avoid the need for an intestinal binder. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same as every other metal protocol. For me, though, the binder seems absolutely necessary for me to feel better.

lymeman - I was also thinking Apple pectin.

Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who have neurological problems from Lyme and can't read large blocks of text. Thanks.

How about Zeolite? Google it. I got some after reading about it on this forum. It has no taste, unlike the liposomal EDTA that I also use. i much prefer the zeolite but the EDTA also breaks down the biofilm.
