I have been on oral and intramuscular antibiotics for 6 months and I have done pretty well regarding yeast until the last couple months.
Twice I have had bad thrush on my tongue and my doctor has pulled me off antibiotics for a week to take diflucan. Each time the diflucan has cleared it up. I have not had any vaginal yeast at all.
I do nystatin swish and spit 4x per day and I take a very high quality probiotic 2x a day. My diet is good. I eat GF and I don't eat sugar. (I sometimes sneak some honey and I could probably cut back carbs as far as eating less rice or pasta)
When I was at my doctors I showed him my tongue and he took me off of rifampin and tindazole and told me to continue the IM rocephin and to go on diflucan until it clears up again.
I have an appointment with him tomorrow and he wants to talk about IV antibiotics. He said that the IV will bypass my GI and may cause less yeast because the antibiotics are not going directly through the GI track.
According to my doctor some people are more prone to developing yeast problems during Lyme treatment than others.
Has anyone had ongoing yeast trouble with their antibiotics? How did your doctor handle it?
Has anyone who has been on IV and oral noticed if their GI yeast was better on IV?
Thanks!

If you eat rice, pasta, and other carbs, you will definitely get yeast.
When I was treating, I had to follow the anti-yeast diet, as seen in Burrascano's Guidelines. I ate basically meat and non-starchy vegetables, some eggs, nuts and seeds, kefir, and yogurt. That's it.
No potatoes as they are a starchy vegetable. And definitely no bread, rice, pasta, or other grains. They turn into sugar which feeds yeast.
No fruit as it has fruit sugar in it.
Until I followed the diet strictly, I struggled with yeast.

Thanks for the reply TF! I will clean up my diet. I am probably eating too many starches.

Hi,
I have not had any issues so far with yeast. (knock on wood). But I ate low carb gluten free before abx.
But as far as tummy upset goes, IV is way way easier for me on my gi tract than orals.
I wish all my abx could be given via IV.
Cutting out rice and pasta will help the thrush.

Thanks GretaM- How long have you been on iv? Have you noticed more improvement on the IV? Thanks!
