HI we found a nymph black legged dear tick on my son of 2 years. It had been there for at least 4 days - we thought it was a tiny scab. We sent the tick to a lab where it was confirmed positive for Lyme. We are concerned bc our doctor will not prescribe any antibiotic as a precaution.
Its been about 17 days since we spotted the tick and the only symptom we noticed was a 101 fever and diarrhea that occurred about a week after the tick was found. Currently there is a tiny spot where we removed the tick 18 days ago.
Should we be concerned? I have inquired about a LLMD in our area of Albany NY. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
For example, adult participants who inhaled oxygen sixty seconds before the presentation of a word list that was to be studied, showed *improved recall* compared to a group who did not.

Increasing levels of acetylcholine can result in improved perception, concentration,
*memory recall*,
verbal fluency and better overall cognitive function.
It would appear between the ages of 15-30 there maybe an increased release of ACh.

becky, I'm so sorry to hear about your son. Based on the tick (confirmed positive for lyme), and being attached for four days - YOUR DOCTOR SHOULD HAVE PRESCRIBED ANTIBIOTIC'S).
I would talk with another doctor right away, until you can get an appointment with an LLMD.

Also, both of those symptoms - 101 fever and diarrhea are related to Lyme disease.

Yes, please treat as soon as possible. You could try a different Dr., or walk in clinic, bringing the positive confirmation papers, explain fever, etc.
And demand Amoxicillin - this is what is usually used for pediatric. If you start antibiotics, be sure to give a probiotic 2-3 hours away.
Lyme is horrible. But if caught early, can be okay.

You could also print information from this link:
Please don't take no for an answer. Bring your confirmation, print out amoxicillin for 28 days, start knocking down some doors. Good job Mom figuring this out- trust your gut (and proof!) that you are right.

Don't wait to treat. You're still early and have the the best odds for recovery. This WILL NOT go away on it's own.
The longer you wait, the harder it is to get rid of this disease.
Not everyone gets a classic bulls-eye rash.
DEMAND antibiotics ASAP.
Also, don't ignore co-infections. Ticks carry more than Lyme like babesia and bartonella.
You might want to contact Tick Borne Disease Alliance or ILADS for referrals or post on "seeking doctors" if you can't find help.

Hi Becky. I just want to say add my wishes. I agree with everyone else. Please get your son on proper doses of Amoxicillin for at least a month. Also, don't forget about this tick bite should other odd things happen even years from now.
But, I believe you are still very much in the window of early treatment.

The tick tested positive for Lyme. Your son needs to be properly treated, and most non-Lyme doctors under-treat. If it were my child, I would treat longer than a month (with proper dose antibiotics) since it has already been over two weeks since the bite.
He should also be evaluated for all the co-infections ticks transmit. NY is endemic for multiple tick-borne diseases.
As others have posted, it is very important to get properly treated as early in the infection as possible. Early infections are the easiest to cure. The link to Dr. Burrascano's treatment guidelines was posted. He also lists proper doses for children (I think starting on page 18).
I will send you a private message with a doctor name. Only a few Lyme doctors treat children. Most are booked for months, but maybe they could fit your son in if you tell them this is a new infection.

I would call all LLMDs in your area who see kids and tell the receptionist your situation - recent tick bite, confirmed that tick has Lyme - to see if they can get you in ASAP.
The other thing to pursue if that doesn't work out very quickly would be urgent care - have found they are much freer with abx than the pedatrician. But if you go there, I would follow up with an LLMD.
You want him on abx as soon as possible.
