They mention chronic Lyme on their website.

http://hospitals.jefferson.edu/diseases-and-conditions/lyme-disease/

Not sure what to make of it.

I've never heard of ANY HOSPITAL that will treat long term.

How I read it: They are very clear, they do not say they will treat it. They never say ANYTHING about how they might treat the infection.

" . . . complications from untreated early-stage disease . . . " -- note they only talk about "early-stage"

" . . . physicians in Jefferson's Infectious Diseases Outpatient Clinic will ensure you are diagnosed correctly."

I wish I could read that positively, and sorry if I seem pessimistic about that but it just raises my radar. It almost seems like a trap. The Infectious Disease doctors (won't believe you) they may as well write.

Then they state that acupuncture can be helpful for a wide range of AILMENTS.

There are a number of places like this that talk about lyme as if they care about the patients and will treat them correctly. But they don't. Betcha a million bucks. When they say "diagnosed correctly," I read that as meaning no lyme diagnosis will be forthcoming. This is a bait and switch operation.

It's not even a full clinic, a full Oriental Medicine clinic & licensed acupuncturists would incorporate herbs, etc. This is just about acupuncture for ailment relief. Nothing else. While acupuncture can be helpful, it's not going to address the core issues with lyme.

Oh . . . about the director of that Acupuncture clinic: He's a psychiatrist.

http://hospitals.jefferson.edu/find-a-doctor/y/yang-jingduan/

Board Certifications

•Psychiatry

Medical Services

•Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Program

•Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

•Executive Great Life Program

[no results at all from a cross search for that with his name - so that limits learning more about just what that program IS, to learn more about his approach.]

•JeffQuit - Smoking Cessation Program

•Psychiatry and Human Behavior

•Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine

[Oh, but that is NOT for full training or certification in either acupuncture or Oriental Medicine at all. Not even close! He is an MD, not an ND or L.Ac.

Not to say that acupuncture and some condensed training might not still be very helpful for many with various diagnoses. It's just that he would not have the full training to really utilize all that Oriental Medicine has to offer, nor does he have any kind of lyme / tick-borne infection training noted.

Likely, he would see everyone through the lens of psychiatry, too. And, in fairness, he may be a very good doctor, for what he does. It is good to see any doctor explore various avenues of treatment. But, he is not really the one to head such a clinic, not being certified in that area.

The clinic is just not the place for someone with lyme, from anything they've considered important enough to post here.]

When considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods, because lyme is so very complex & unique, as are possible coinfections:

if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL ND (lyme literate naturopathic doctor) (or similar) who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -

- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present, and has completed the ILADS Physician Training Program (see: www.ilads.org )

so they really know all they can about the science of lyme . . . how lyme (& other TBD) act and what we can do about that in various ways.

Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.

When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/2/13964

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Herbal Safety considerations & reference books; etc.

Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;

knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.

You can compare and contrast many approaches with links to articles, books, methods . . . .

OH BROTHER!!!! Have seen just about every specialist at this hospital. Neurologist, gastroenterologist, infectious disease etc.

I even presented my test results from my LLMD to my neurologist and he completely ignored the results. Was at their migraine center and their "wellness clinic".

On one occasion the E. R. sent me home with a completely numb head after arriving by ambulance. They are band wagon jumpers and don't have a clue about this disease or how to treat it.

Oh, I almost forgot, the head of dermatology told me the lesions on my shoulders and head were self inflicted and that I needed a psychiatrist. Need I say more??

Thanks for the responses.

I had the same general suspicions as voiced here, but a friend of mine was quite adamant that I check it out.

I am wondering when/how there will be a crack made in "legitimate" health services that actually offer to treat.

What is critical mass? How many of us does it take?

A lot. Have you gone to activism to help get the NY State Lyme Bill passed into law.

If not, please do so. We need everyone's help.

I agree about Jefferson. Stay away, they're clueless IDSA know nothings.
