Hello,

This is in reference to my brother in law. He pulled a deer tick off of his arm about 2 months ago. He developed a bulls eye rash and immediately went to the doctors office. Doctor gave him 7-10 days worth of antibiotic and ordered a Lyme test. Came back negative. No big surprise. He was told that he had some cellulite around the bite area.

His back has been hurting him for about 2 weeks now. Not just the spinal column area but radiating out into the muscles. Also his upper arms are sore.

He was cleaning up around his property and may have overdone it by a little. He is normally only sore for a few days and does not think he did anything to warrant being sore for 2 weeks. His back has not gotten any better in the last 2 weeks.

What do you think?

The bulls-eye rash is 100% diagnostic. No test necessary.

He way under-treated for Lyme. He probably has co-infections too.

He needs AT LEAST a month of antibiotics, more like 6 weeks and possibly longer to knock the Lyme out when you start treating right after you get infected.

It's still early for him. He needs to see a Lyme literate doctor ASAP or he's going to just get worse.

Obviously the doc he went to doesn't understand Lyme disease.

It was my PCP who saw that I had an erythema migrans rash. She even knew that the test would be negative because it's waaaaaay too early to test and started treating immediately. Ideal time to test is estimated around 6 weeks after being infected (but even that can come out negative).

Good luck!

I'm also dealing with a brother who got a bulls-eye rash a couple weeks ago. The doc said it was a spider bite (ticks are arachnids by the way). Doctors really suck when it comes to Lyme.
