Need Mepron. Insurance denied because my Babs test came back neg, but I am most definitely clinically positive. I was able to find some discounted Mepron but need more as it is def making a difference. Any leads appreciated.

You could try malarone or clindamycin/quinine combo if you can't get the mepron.

Agree with Lymetoo - try adding ART as well. Coartem and Alinia are good alternatives as is Byron White A-Babs.

goodrx.com has coupons.
My doc was going to triple my malarone if mepron wasn't going to be covered by insurance. Not sure if your insurance will cover that either with what you're saying.
Malarone might be cheaper if you do generic and use the goodrx coupon, but it depends on the dosage. Some people do 8 pills a day.

Judie - did I really read that right - 8 pills a day? Hubby could definitely tell the difference between 4 and 6 pills daily, but never went beyond that dose.
When you say you were negative - the important question is which tests were done? Unless you had multiple blood smears and also tested both babesia microti and babesia duncani by both PCR and also by antibody you have not used all the testing options. Unfortunately most people cannot afford to do all those tests.
Have you tried appealing your claim to insurance? Maybe your doc could write a letter and say it is a clinical diagnosis and get the mepron approved that way. It never hurts to appeal - usually about 50 percent of appeals are approved.

Yes, but I don't think it's common. Someone in my support group was up to 6 pills a day.
I haven't done 8 pills a day, but read that some doctors are doing much higher doses and having some success. I'm trying to find the article to post, I saw it a couple months ago. It was recent.
If my insurance hadn't approved Mepron, I would been up to 6-8 pills per day of malarone.
I'm having such a good response to the mepron/malarone combo. I wonder if the malarone is helping the mepron get more absorbed or something.
I haven't tested for both forms of babesia, but have had the best response to babesia meds. Much better than the Lyme meds.

Thanks to all for the replies and support. I have tried pretty much every combo of meds over the past few years including Rx and herbals. Did get Babs sort of under control at one point, but it has resurfaced. Only thing I haven't tried is Mepron so docs rx Mepron is way to go paired with Zith or Malerone. zith is too hard on my stomach so doing Malerone. best results yet but just can't afford it. I think I have had every Babs test thru IgeneX. but will double check. Thanks for the tip. You all are the best. Thanks so much.
