For various reasons, Tamiflu is not the fabulous helper and has some downsides. Sometimes, it helps, sometimes it hurts. And there are equal or better ways, too.

If you have a naturpathic doctor, they would know what would be best for YOUR body . . . and you could go ahead and get that all on hand.

There are some particularly good homeopathics that you take every ten days during flu season and then a similar one to take at the very first sign of flu.

Also collect foods that would be both easy and nourishing.

Increase your Vit D levels to 70-80. I take 10,000 IU daily.

Take a maintenance dose of Elderberry extract daily and take the Intensive dose for any viral illness. Sambucol is one brand name and there are others.
Elderberry extract has antiviral properties and shortens the duration and severity of the flu significantly.

Eat a diet full of dark green leafy vegetables, organic grass fed meats, wild fish, colorful berries, and lots of anti-inflammatory oils such as organic virgin or extra virgin coconut oil.

Vitamin C and Zinc are helpful too.

Antioxidants of any kind can be helpful.

This is sooo important: NEVER touch your eyes, nose, mouth or food with unwashed hands. If you are meticulous about this, you can avoid colds, flu, etc.

Wash hands often, especially after returning home, before eating, before removing/inserting contact lenses, touching public doors, after touching shopping carts, etc.

Hold your breath (without deeply inhaling) and walk quickly away from anyone who sneezed or seems to be sick.

I carry individually wrapped Wet Ones with me everywhere and a container of them in my car.

I read somewhere (sorry, don't remember where, exactly) that taking one vial of Oscillococcinum homeopathic remedy once a week during the flu season wards off the flu, etc. I have never done this yet (just might this year), but I have used Oscillo at the onset of the flu and it dramatically shortened symptoms and the illness itself.

Don't have to take the whole vial of Oscillococcinum, just need a capful once a week. My family has done this for years, and when they are diligent with it, nobody in the family gets the flu.

I had a very good experience with Sambucol when the Swine Flu epidemic came to England. In less than 24 hrs. I went from barely having the strength to send a one-word text message, to being able to potter around.

Elderberry has centuries of folklore behind it. I don't know if all preparations are as good as Sambucol though.

When the H1N1 flu was going around several years ago, my daughter's entire family caught it.

My youngest grandson, who was 4 at the time, was the only one who took Sambucol when they were sick and he definitely recovered much faster than the rest of the family.

Also, note that Sambucol comes in "Original" and "Cold and Flu".

You actually want the "Original" formula to use at all times, including when having a cold or the flu.

The "Cold and Flu" formula says that it is meant to be used in conjunction with the "Original" formula.

Buhner has a book out - "Herbal Antivirals" - and he talks about the flu a lot. He breaks it down into different categories such as Influenza A, Influenza B, Influenza C, H1N1, H2N2, H3N2, H5N1, and H7N7. He likes different herbs for different things but some of the herbs and formulas are good for all.

His common influenza tincture blend is: equal parts of lomatium, red root, licorice, and pleurisy root. Take up to 1 tsp 6x daily.

However he prefers this blend more: equal parts of Chinese skullcap (scutellaria biacalensis, isatis, licorice, lomatium, red root, yerba santa (Eriodictyon spp.), elephant tree (Bursera microphylla), osha (Ligusticum porteri), and either immortal (Asclepias asperula), or pleurisy root (Asclepias tuberosa). The last four herbs do not have to be included.

I'll be paying more attention to exactly which flu is going around.

I am just staring to feel better after this flu. I was swabbed and she said it was was not flu A or B.

If this is what will be going around, you don't want it!!!!

I haven't had a fever since lyme and I had a 101 fever and that was after my delirium had eased.

I wish i had remembered the sambucol! totally forgot about it.

Nature's Way Olive leaf - 2 every few hours with hot green tea helps with the cold virus. I haven't used it for flu, but it should help, too.
