My dog just tested positive for heartworm! He is
not showing any clinical signs yet. Anybody
treated?? Im not sure what to do that is the safest
way to go for my dog. The vet recommended Doxy
and antibiotics for the slow safe way. Anybody
done this with success? There is also a shot
given
called Aminicide. Given 2 times but i heard it
was dangerous. I was just wanting somebody's input
on this parasite and how to safely kill it
without harming my dog.

Good luck-was the dog on preventuve meds? The insects are getting more and more dangerous

Yes, our rescue lab was heart worm positive. we had her treated with the IM injections, it is expensive and the shots are VERY painful. Its really a difficult treatment for them so if you can find a vet who will give pain medications that would be highly recommended.
After the shots, she did have to remain calm for a while because the dying worms can dislodge and cause an embolism. Our lab did have some coughing, but she recovered 100% and is a very happy and healthy girl.
The hardest part was seeing her in pain from the shots, but I am glad we went through treatment because she is great now.
The other option is the oral ivermectin route which obviously causes no pain and is much less expensive. I think if the infection load is not high that is a good option but I would get another opinion Best wishes
