Am taking INvanz and Vancomyacin IV now. do any of these qualify as a cyst buster? I guess Im confused about what drug does what as I tested several times positive for Borrelia. do either of these penetrate the blood brain barrier?

Flagyl (oral antibiotic) can pass the BB barrier but it can have severe Herx reactions also. It must be started at very low doses. I had a severe enough Herx as 1/8 a pill that my brain swelled and I went temporarily blind and was hospitalized. A lot of people have good results though so it could be worth talking to your doctor about.

The two meds that kill the cyst form of lyme are Flagyl (metronidazole) and tinidazole (Tindamax).

See Burrascano Guidelines page 13 and also page 15. Here is a quote:

"The antibiotics commonly used for Lyme do not kill the cystic form of Bb. However, there is laboratory evidence that metronidazole and tinidazole will disrupt it. Therefore, the chronically infected patient who has resistant disease may need to have metronidazole (or tinidazole) added to the regimen." Page 13

The lyme doctor who cured me started me out with flagyl at the full dose and I did fine. However, I had treated the spirochete form of lyme for 2 years by then--with a lousy lyme doctor. Once I got to a doc who followed Burrascano and gave me flagyl and amoxicillin together, I beat lyme in no time. My Burrascano type doctor told me that the amoxi only treatment had turned all of my lyme into the cyst form.

I had my first herx on the flagyl/amoxi combo. It wasn't anything to write home about. So, that shows you how different every person's case can be.

If you don't develop a secondary infection, such as C Diff, sepsis, or a systemic fungal infection, or have other adverse effects from the drugs themselves, you will be very lucky.

I would get a second opinion.

I suggest you read and STUDY the Burrascano Guidelines to see the dosages and antibiotic combinations he suggests.

My doc followed these Guidelines and I was rid of lyme, babesiosis, and bartonella in 13 months of treatment.

And, I didn't get C. diff or any other adverse effect from the meds. However, I followed all of Burrascano's instructions so I was eating basically only meat and non-starchy vegetables (to prevent candida) and taking lots of good probiotics as per Burrascano.

So, follow his instructions and I doubt that anything bad will happen.

See the Guidelines here:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Read the rules regarding flagyl on page 15, for example, no alcohol. That includes in mouth wash.

I did not drink any alcohol ever during my lyme treatment. And, to detoxify, I drank lots and lots of water with lemons squeezed into it.

My flagyl dosage was 250 mg 3 times per day. I took it daily for 2 months.

I have been rid of lyme for almost 10 years now. I have the same life now as I had before lyme disease.

I also sent at least 5 of my friends to doctors who follow the Burrascano protocol and they also got rid of their diseases.

So, study the protocol and be a very obedient patient. Don't break the diet. When I did while I was on flagyl, I would immediately get a yeast infection in my mouth. 3 days of diflucan and returning to the strict diet always took care of it.

But, I also was drinking kefir daily as Burrascano recommends. So, study the protocol and follow it to a T.

See this quote from page 22:

"SAFETY
Over two decades of experience in treating thousands of patients with Lyme has proven that therapy as described above, although intense, is generally well tolerated. The most common adverse reaction seen is allergy to probenecid. In addition, yeast superinfections are seen, but these are generally easily recognized and managed. The induction of Clostridium difficile toxin production is seen most commonly with ceftriaxone, but can occur with any of the antibiotic regimens mentioned in this document. However, pulsed dose therapy and regular use of the lactobacillus preparations seems to be helpful in controlling yeast and antibiotic related colitis, as the number of cases of C. difficile in Lyme patients is low when these guidelines are followed.. . .

Remember, years of experience with chronic antibiotic therapy in other conditions, including rheumatic fever, acne, gingivitis, recurrent otitis, recurrent cystitis, COPD, bronchiectasis, and others have not revealed any consistent dire consequences as a result of such medication use. Indeed, the very real consequences of untreated, chronic persistent infection by B. burgdorferi can be far worse than the potential consequences of this treatment."

Burrascano treated thousands of lyme patients. They came from all over the world to be treated by him. So, he really is the expert when it comes to this disease. Learn from him.
