I have pain all up my spine. I am very very dizzy. I am having trouble moving my arms and legs. My head feels very pressured and heavy.

I am having trouble turning my head.

I can't hear and my face and head feel numb. I am vomiting and I don't know what to do.

Maya, it may not be meningitis, but with new onset back pain, difficulty moving your neck and limbs, and vomiting, you should call an ambulance, or ask someone to do that for you.

We wish you the best.

I agree call an ambulance. You need to go to the er. It might not be meningitis but you have lots of the symptoms.

I will pray for you.

Maya,

First. What the ER is and is not. It's there to try to keep people alive. They are there to stop blood that;s spurting or bones that are broken.

Not so much to diagnose or treat anything else. They don't tend to do as well with things they cannot see. Sometimes, though, they can but more so with conditions with very clear signs.

For those who have more complex cases, they will be more often dismissed.

You say you are vomiting, so I hope they can give you something to ease that. It sounds like you could have some kind of flu and that just makes everything harder.

The neurological symptoms are not something most doctors are really good with, either.

It sounds reasonable with the symptoms you list that you would seek out medical care and assume that you first had to call your general doctor to get the okay to go to the ER in the first place. ?

Call your regular doctor back & ask what they suggest. If you can't hear, though, Id be getting a friend to call a hearing specialist ASAP, and this being Christmas Eve, still try to find a hearing expert.

The response you are getting is very typical. It's important to know that. Try to see it through their eyes. We have to understand how they think.

This is not about right or wrong or that you don't deserve help. But it's like we take a Volvo to a Chevy mechanic. The training just does not always cross over to bodies with lyme, either, as if our engines changed.

Yes, your symptoms are rough. What I don't understand though, you say that you "can't hear" -- well, if that is true, I assume you mean sudden onset deafness? If so, they should be taking that seriously.

But, as you apparently can hear what they are telling you, it seems that your ears may be clogged and that can be due to inflammation or drug action.

There are so many things you can do for yourself at home. If you have been seen by a doctor and they checked the basics that they do, that's the best you can do.

Many of us have been right where you are and I've gone home from more than one ER trip with the same situation. I was glad to learn how to wait this sort of thing out for myself, doing what I could that was so much better than any treatment any ER ever was able to offer.

It's really not what they do. They are good at other things, and this just does not fit the category of what they do, what they are good at or what they want to do.

I'm sorry to tell you this but this just does not cover the kinds of training they've had.

Getting through all the symptoms of lyme can be a rough & tumble ordeal. If we know that, it's easier to just wait it out, doing the best we can for ourselves - until you can communicate with the doctors who are directly involved with your care.

When you get back home, go through your "herxheimer & liver support" notes. Rest. Eat some nourishing soup. Rest. Sometimes, just resting in a quiet room helps.

And Magnesium would have kept me out of two ERs had I known then what I know now. Take care.

Cross check all Rx and OTC to see of they are ototoxic. Use this search combination. Bauman is the top expert in ototoxic drugs.

Rx name (or OTC name), Bauman, ototoxic

No, it is not "all anxiety" - but that's what THEY see and think.

You know differently. And there are other ways to approach this. It may not be meningitis, yet, you know lyme causes all kinds of swelling / inflammation and all kinds of symptoms.

And we have ways to address some of those symptoms on our own, and rest but - most often - we still have to just wade through.

Would I have gone to the ER with symptoms you described? I have, in the past. Twice. Well, I was having seizures, too. Very intense. I was kicked out. Twice. They said nothing was wrong.

From that, I've learned that I can take care of myself better.

But, your HEARING?

Can you hear? That is the most important symptom at this point if you cannot hear. That requires expert consult.

You must do all you can to protect your hearing / balance.

Yes I can hear a bit but my head is so pressured, body so weak and I am so dizzy. I also have horrid chest pain and I feel like I am dying.

How do you know you won't just die of a heart attack or stroke?

Well, if I were to, I'd rather be in my own bed (laugh here, really, but it's still serious, I know).

And, indeed, if you don't know this already, it is a rough reminder that much of the time someone is ill with lyme, we do feel like we are dying. When we know that, it's helps. And then we learn, bit by bit, what HELPS.

The thing is that you went, they saw you, there is nothing more that going back to them will do for you at this point in time.

And, being in a ER would hasten my death from all the noise and lights. No place for anyone who is ill. I can take better care of myself.

Call your regular doctor before they close (likely early as it's Christmas Eve).

Your hearing issue sounds more like inflammation than nerve damage deafness. But I'm no expert.

Maya,

My hands are just a wreck. I have to stop now.

About that being "terrified" - that we can control to some degree. I found that when I could turn the fear into nurturing thoughts for myself, thinking of ways to get out of the mess, it helped.

If the level of fear is at an anxiety level, magnesium is a wonderful helper there. And your adrenal support may need some serious adjustments.

Somehow, REST is key. Assertive REST. And now I must go do that for myself. I hope you feel better.

Later, go back through your past threads and look over the adrenal & liver supports that have been posted for you. This CAN get better.

Take care.

What Lyme meds (or any meds) are you on???

It could be an adverse drug reaction, not a herx or anxiety.

For some, drugs that are supposed to calm anxiety can make it worse, though. Be sure to notice how YOUR body reacts to ANYTHING you take regarding this symptom.

Benzos are some of the more troubling ones that can create the opposite of what's intended for many.

Magnesium & Adrenal support worked much better for me than any Rx that was supposed to calm my body but just irritated it instead.

With the vestibular symptoms (hearing trouble, dizzy, nausea) be sure to double check to be ANYTHING you take is not ototoxic. If it is, that can trigger anxiety by throwing off the balance in your inner / middle ear.

When your inner / middle ear (vestibular / balance system) is grappling with which way is up or how to keep you walking, talking, thinking . . . and that is off kilter,

the body goes into a kind of shock and anxiety can be one physiological reaction to that. The inner ear sends all kinds of warning alarms to all other systems - triggers nausea/vomiting, etc.

Search: drug/OTC name, Bauman, ototoxic

So I was feeling so sick that my husband took me to another hospital.

They took me seriously and did a ct of my head.
I don't have any white lesions, brain swelling or anything. All is normal so I guess it is just a really bad herx.

Maya, ask the hospital for an advocate -- most have *volunteers* who serve as advocates and can be there with you to fight for your rights, and see if that person can call local Lyme organizations to get further help from people who will help stand up for you.
