I unknowingly went natural route (didn't know I had lyme, even though I was very sick). I did acupuncture for a year and felt much better after my year. I also did yoga. At the end of the year though, I got bit again, and so much came with that bite that is how I eventually found Lymenet.
Later discovered I can't detox, so that may have something to do with me not tolerating abx very well.
I feel much better when I am detoxing and supporting my body, than when I'm killing bugs, but I imagine everyone feels that way. I also recently saw an excellent series on cancer, and the just of it was to support the body, and not do the routine cancer treatments docs typically suggest. I do believe supporting the body is key to improving the immune system.
Also saw the movie Dallas Buyers Club (80s, HIV/Aids). Supporting the body was key. The people who took the meds died, and the ones who supported their bodies lived longer.
All things considered, had I not got bitten again, I would have just continued with yoga and acupuncture. I was much better back then.
Also, suggest doing energy medicine and parasite treatment.

Dr. K. has been saying for decades: everyone with chronic infections cannot detox well. And that probably is the main reason why they have chronic infections from start.
It took me time to accept that fact. But after trying different binders and cleaning substances and feeling WAY better this way, I slowly shifted all my treatment towards cleaning, supporting rather than killing.
Killing was about 10% of what I was doing, taking, and the rest was building, cleaning. that lasted for years, until lyme was finally gone.
Just look at a cold: first symptoms come with fatigue, active infection. Of course we take something to help with killing (we use homeopathic nosodes, or propolis, vit D, C, chicken bone soup or stuff like that).
Then comes the second phase: the infection may go down to lungs, causing further problems. We still take killers, immune support, but then concentrate on taking catarrh off.
Then 3rd phase: we got fed up of treating, and usually stop doing anything. Then what we get are only dry coughs, no more infection symptoms.
But this phase is still bothersome and may last weeks. So we stop treating infections and go only for symptom relief (to liquify catarrh so that it comes out and stops). If we don't treat that, we get weak and get another cold. The treatment is pretty different than at start!! Chinese herbs, lemon juice, homeopathics, inhalation...
We are not fighting lyme anymore, that is why we catch colds more often in the last years. But the pattern of treatment is a bit like lyme, I feel.
If you just concentrate only on killing, you can't even heal a cold!! Going natural, in my opinion, is almost like the only way. I mean, you don't have to abandon chemicals for good. But only taking chemicals won't take you out of chronic infectious diseases.
Not even a long cold can be EASILY healed only with chemicals.

Takes about 18 months for the abx to kick in. I stayed on them 7 years and have weaned off in the past few months. BWF formulas have taken their place.
My Lyme Disease was severe, so it may differ with a milder case.

When considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods, because lyme is so very complex & unique, as are possible coinfections:
if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL ND (lyme literate naturopathic doctor) (or similar) who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -
- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present, and has completed the ILADS Physician Training Program (see: www.ilads.org )
so they really know all they can about the science of lyme . . . how lyme (& other TBD) act and what we can do about that in various ways.
Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.
When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.
Herbal Safety considerations & reference books; etc.
Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:
Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;
knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.
You can compare and contrast many approaches with links to articles, books, methods . . .
BODY WORK methods / links (and why anyone who works on your spine MUST be LL to the degree they at least know to never suddenly twist neck or spine. Never. Ever. And that we should never be advised to do neck / head / shoulder stands.) -

I do not take any RX from pharmacy.
I am doing much better now than a yr ago.
I was on abx for about 6 months i think. improved but not well and had many GI issues.
I switched to herbals and suppliments. better for me, and seemed to work. I have finished my herbal treatments. dr said I am clear of lyme and all tick disease, but I may never believe that. I am now focusing on healing damage.
diet is a key factor.
currently taking only: vit D Adrenogen multi vit. digestive enzymes and a proprietary support blend
THAT's IT.
and I feel pretty good, not great and about 75% better than when on abx.
but I feel only about 50% maybe better than I did when I once felt good , which was so long ago I probably can't remember any way! haha
I am going to Iris dr in couple of weeks to see what she sees in my eye. this should be interesting.

A lot of people cannot take antibiotics, for various reasons. So there are sites full of discussion about what else folks do. Like one of them is the Buhner herb folks - they have a yahoo site, lyme_aid_Buhner. One example out of many.
I think it's best to get bloodtested by an LLMD to get supplement boosts for what's needed. Like I take Armour thyroid because my body tests low.
I'm pretty much on natural anti-inflams, like turmeric, mangosteen juice, noni juice, grapeseed extract, etc.

I agree that you don't have to be at the brink of death to decide to take abx instead of natural treatments.
Some people have no choice, and have to go natural.
Some people at the brink of death will go natural because they think it works better, following their minds or beliefs.
It's like cancer therapies. The choice to go chemical/radio or natural has NOTHING to do with the severity of the disease. It's a personal choice.
Don't fool yourself saying chemical/radio will work better if you are sicker, like abx will work better because you are sicker. Just because chemicals look stronger.
there are miracle cases of healing with many different therapies.
You can see that some people that never herx or improve with some abx can almost die of a herx taking a single herb (like Japanese knotweed, cats claw or andrographis). I've been long enough in lymenet to remember loads of posts talking about that.
So no way: if you go natural or chemical, or both, is all dependent on your choice. It's a matter of belief: some people will chose chemiotherapy to a natural treatment, just because it looks stronger.
Now, being 'stronger', may mean it may kill you too. It doesn't mean it's necessarily better for healing. Or it may indeed kill the cancer cells, despite damaging you too.
With herbs, dieting and meditation, they look weaker, but that doesn't mean worse. If it is a matter of choice, you are a lucky person. Many people do not have a chance to choose.
