For those that have had success with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, how many sessions did it take before seeing some improvement?

Hi LymeOverwhelmed...

Have you read the Mild Hyperbaric thread?

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=125201;p=0

I encourage you to post your question there, as you will get a variety of responses from people who are currently doing mHBOT.

For me, it took at least 2 months of daily treatment to become aware of a shift taking place, but it didn't exactly feel like an "improvement" at that time. I just knew that things were changing at that point, so I continued.

After that, it was a very rocky road, with gradual improvement in a 2 step forward, one step back pattern. I began to feel as if I was truly getting my life back after about a year of daily "dives".

Progress varies; however, those who are diving consistently, are not ingesting a lot of substances, and are following a clean diet with graded exercise seem to move ahead more rapidly.

This is a marathon, not a sprint...but well worth it to the people who are improving...

It really varies, from what I've heard. It took one person I knew with very severe pain 33 sessions before turning the corner to very reduced pain. That's just one person's story. This is not the mild hyperbaric kind that Phoiph is talking about - it's regular hyperbaric.

I wouldn't waste money or regular hyperbaric oxygen treatments, as opposed to the mild hyperbaric. The gains usually do not last and you have to do a lot of treatment to see benefits that eventually dissipate.

It could be seen as an adjunct therapy in combination with abx treatment it not a way to gain remission. There are other ways to get more bang for your buck.

I did about 25 of them and personally felt that if was a very expensive waste of my money.

Agreed, Abxnomore...

Higher pressure (HBOT = above pressures of 1.5 ATA) is not indicated for neurological conditions, and many who have done high pressure for Lyme have either not improved, or regressed later.

I used (and continue to use) mild hyperbaric (mHBOT = 1.5 ATA or below; home chambers reach 1.3 ATA only as per FDA regulations) with supplemental oxygen daily using a home chamber, which allowed me to do it at a fraction of the cost of clinical treatments.

The key is frequency and consistency over time...

I did 30 dives along with taking Biaxin with no

improvement. I would not spend my money on it.

lyme1994...

I'm assuming you're referring to "regular" HBOT vs. mHBOT (mild pressure)...is that correct?
