Does anyone use their iv tubing twice in a 24 hour period. I have only used once as per lmd instructions. Visiting nurse said can use them two times in a day.

I used to let mine trickle very slowly and use it again just to save money.

What type of tubing? I had a picc line with a catheter, that always stayed in.
I flushed with single use syringes. My tubing was connected to my IV bags, forget what they are called.
But no, I NEVER reused that tubing. I would clean the end with alcohol wipes and discard after medicating.
Reusing it runs the risk of contamination/infection. However, if it is just used by yourself, perhaps that is reduced. I know nurses sometimes use the same tubing in a 72 hour period. Certain drugs can breed bacteria more than others, so I would ask are you flushing out the lines with sterile saline?
You need to be sure you are using proper sterile technique (wash hands and dry with paper towels or use gloves), wipe ends with alcohol, etc.

I have only used the tubing with the spike that goes into the bag once. A home care nurse told me they can be used twice. She said you leave the empty bag on and then replace it when you are ready for the second bag. You cap the end and swab before reusing. My sister an rn says the hospital uses the same tube three times. This doesn't sit well with me but I hate waste also. I haven't done it yet.

Seems to me like that information comes with the tubing. Have you looked at any printed material that is on/in the package?
Have a vague recollection that it is more a matter of length of time, rather than number of times used. Are you using it for more than one drug?

Poppy, why didn,t I think of that. The bag says for single use only. I'm going to live well enough alone.
