Hi all! I am a Canadian who's trying to track down the medications for Klinghardt's parasite protocol. My biggest issue right now is the Alinia. It is not for sale in Canada.

My LLMD suggested that I get the Alinia from a "Canadian" pharmacy called buylowdrugs, but I called them and they said they import their medications from Singapore. I am worried that they might not even be a truly Canadian pharmacy and that these pills are just sugar pills. They are very cheap, of course (about $66). I think my LLMD just heard about the cheap price and that is why she is suggesting it.

I can also get the drugs compounded from a pharmacy like Infuserve, for about $300.

Or I could buy the manufacturer's version from a US pharmacy for over $2300 (as a Canadian, I have no insurance for this).

So basically I'm looking for advice. I am worried that if I try the overseas version of Alinia and don't get a reaction, I will always wonder if I really tried Alinia or just a placebo! Has anyone used Alinia from buylowdrugs before?

At the same time, I am worried that a compounded version might be incorrectly made and also not effective... but I don't know very much about compounding. Could I get some opinions on whether compounding the drug is a relatively safe route?

Thank you!

Most drugs including almost all the NAME BRANDS are made overseas quite often India and Turkey and then distributed by many pharmacies. I live in the US and our meds are outrageous in cost. My insurance will not cover my non standard meds.

Alinia 500 mg (Nitazoxanide) is about $31.00 each on discount or $40 per pill retail. Yes $31.00 to $40.00 per pill. This was enough to push me to do some research. Looking up Alinia cost on Google I fairly quickly was routed to different pharmacies in Canada, even though some are blocked in the US.

I found the generic form of Alina, Nitazoxanide, which is made in India for about $1.50 each or by searching a bit deeper using the generic name, I found it out of India from a couple of different companies for about $.25. Humm, I wonder why there are more drugstores in the US than Starbucks.

You can do a bit of research about ratings and feedback about most of the companies and make your own decisions. Just about every med I order is from either a Canadian pharmacy or from a middle man. Your mileage may vary.

I wish you the best on your ailments and I highly suggest when your mind is clear do as much research about as you can about all parts and keep lots of well organized notes. My Excel is over 200 columns long about drug, brand name, generic name, strength, pharmacy, manufacturer location, cost, etc. It has saved me many thousands.

Hi there! Thank you for your reply, 1 Flew Over. Do you have any online Canadian pharmacies that you use and trust? The reason I ask is that I've been trying to read reviews about the pharmacies I have found who sell Alinia, but a lot of them have negative reviews or people say that they appear suspicious. If you have any tips for reputable sources, I would appreciate it!

Contact the Canadian Lyme Support Groups to ask about pharmacies who sell Alinia. They would probably have a better idea.

This is your best bet. I use it and it's fine. Bloody ridiculous what they're charging for this drug in the developed world.

I might make a couple of suggestions;

If and when you work with overseas pharmacies set up an account with them so it is easier to track what you have ordered. I have never had permanent problems but sometimes logistics snafus crop up.

My credit card company allows me to set up what they call safe shop accounts. I call them and ask and they set up a mini account for what I buy. I set it for $20 or so over what I am going to spend and they give me an account number, 3 digit back of the card code and an expiration date with that much money in the account. Whoever gets the number can only withdraw no more than the max amount. As I need more money next time I just add more.

Look around a bit and find some company that seems right to you. A couple of cents per pill isn’t worth the hassle. You are buying Alinia for less than 30 cents per pill instead of $35-40 in the US. I was comfortable with All Day Chemist and I have also used Allgenericmedicine.

I am still looking for Mepron for less than the cost of my first car.

1 Flew Over,

I'm having the same problem finding affordable Mepron(atovaquone). The closest I've com is generic malarone from English pharmacies. They dispense it for travellers and use an online prescribing system which costs ten pounds.

What one could do, if they were so inclined, is fill out their forms for six "friends" on a trip to Kenya for 3 months, or whatever, and they'd ship you the pills anywhere in the EU.

I'd probably try if I had a contact, but I don't, so I'm trying other things for now.

I searched AliBaba for Chinese manufacturers who choose not to respect western patent laws. There seem to be a few but I don't trust them.

If you get any good leads, please do give us a heads up.

My doc is recommending Mepron in solution rather than Malerone tablet form because of supposedly much higher absorption rate than pill form but cheapest I can find it is $680 U.S. for 210ml or enough for about 3 weeks. OUCH!

I'll check to see if he will accept the Malerone and have it sent to someone in an EU country to forward to me. Otherwise I show it at $4.38 per pill.

I have a friend in India for the next couple of weeks I will check with them for sources.

I found 99% Artemisinin Powder on Alibaba for $200 per kilo rather than $140 per ounce.

Thank you for the info.
