- Too bad the MD that ABC has as their long-time expert (Richard Besser, MD) gets a lot wrong about lyme.
To tell viewers it has to be attached for 36 hours - or that one has a full month of being ill before they really need to start treatment . . . or that such high percentage get the rash . . . just too sad that no one calls him out on that.
For most news pieces like this, it's about a 2:1 ratio. Twice the misconceptions to truths. -

This is part of a post I shared elsewhere that may help?
A number of advocates have been educating and working with magazines since the late 1980’s/early 1990’s on Lyme related issues, even before we had computers- the old fashioned way.
If I may suggest…. flooding them with letters when they are already doing a good job just annoys them, mostly because they are busy and it appears to be a “campaign” when too many are received. A simple and sincere thank you from a few folks, so I’ve been told straight from the horse’s mouth, is all that is needed once they are sharing positive stories.
These are just some of the Lyme related/affected people, etc. that People magazine has written about in the past.
Trevor Bayne Debbie Gibson Yolanda Foster Parker Posey Under Our Skin Amy Tan Tom Coffey E. G. Marshall Michael Zaslow Nick Esasky Pam Penalla Andrew Abrahams Neneh Cherry
Time magazine has also been faithfully reporting on Lyme since the late 1970’s. Under Our Skin did wonders to get more magazines and media in general involved. Readers Digest, Woman’s Day, Ebony and even Sport’s Illustrated have also published good articles on Lyme.
The LDA was very instrumental and did countless numbers of interviews with reporters, and spent a lot of time educating and doing damage control too.
Of course it is hard for me to tell when reading a magazine with my eyes closed, but I don’t think we’ve had much luck with Playboy yet.
However, one of their Playboy bunnies, actually the lady mentioned in People's latest article- Avril Lavigne- has unfortunately contracted Lyme so maybe they will eventually publish an article about it?
It would be interesting coverage too, because, as we all know, people only buy Playboy magazine for the articles.
