I have Lyme and Babesia and I am only able to sleep for about two to three hours at a time if I'm lucky and a lot of nights I can' t ever get back to sleep. I've heard Coffea Cruda is good. I use Valerian and homeopathic sublinguals but nothing helps me sleep through the night anymore. Has anyone conquered this part of Lyme while using herbs and homeopajthics?

Vistaril not the generic works for me. No one else seems to like it but i love it. I get 4-6 hrs rem sleep, dont keep getting up to pee, if pain wakes me up its easy to change position and get back to sleep. Its an antihistazmine with anti anxiety properties. I never feel drowsey next day

It means you put your post in a unacceptable category, didn't follow the LymeNet rules, and they moved it. Don't get me started.... grrrrrrrr.

Who me? Insomnia? It's after 5:30 AM and I am totally wide awake. It's not, for me at least, the computer at night, or tv, or anything I can come up with cause I purposely stopped all that and it made no difference. Addressing organ issues, eating right, no caffeine, etc.

I now sleep fine when I do sleep (used to not do well at that either)- and sleep 6-8 hours which is NICE- but I can't go to sleep before about 6 AM, even if I get in bed long before then.

As a long time fire fighter (and mother) I refuse to drug myself to sleep for fear of not being able to wake up when or if needed. Tried it once (actually was drugged by ER doc when I broke some ribs- not purposely drugged myself) and slept 18 hours straight, never even moved from the original position I was in when I fell asleep. That's scary!

At this point I figure my working nights and being on-call for fires and emergencies (ambulance) for so many years disrupted something? I even stayed up 22 hours the other day/night hoping that would get me tired enough to fall asleep at the right time and that didn't work either.

My clock is broken! I'm a freak!

[lol]

But, I have Lyme advocate friends in California as a result. When they need something they know someone on the east coast is still awake even if they are up really late! HA!

Tulips, have you tried melatonin? If not- Source Naturals, 3 mg tablets- TIME RELEASED. And only time released and this brand.

It worked best in tests we did comparing brands and the time released benefit let folks sleep more than 3 hours at a time.

Only one warning- you may, once you get to sleep- a deep & good sleep- have wicked nightmares for a few weeks. Don't know why, but it is fairly common, but it does stop after a few weeks. My guess is you are finally able to get the deep sleep you've been missing and are able to dream again.

Don't know why the dreams are so vivid and almost always wicked, but they are.

My dreams would have scared the pants off Stephen King!

Ah Ha. I now realize I was posting in the wrong place. Before my post was moved to Medical Questions, someone had sent a text which said something to the effect that disturbed sleep was the result of a cortisol deficiency - but I can no longer find that post. However, that is very interesting and might be the underlying cause for the reason why people with Lyme have sleep disturbances. Thanks Tincup for the information on Source Naturals tablets that worked for you. I haven't had a decent night's sleep in many years. Right now I have REM sleep from 10 pm to Midnight but then I'm awake until 5:00 am. It keeps me feeling depleted.

Have for years. I can't sleep without 100mg of Trazadone each night. Sometimes I add into the mix the OTC anti-histamine that is sold as a sleep aid...I know, it's horrible for me, but not sleeping is even worse. Not one homeopathic worked for me and I tried them all. Melatonin was the worst - kept me awake. I also HAVE to wear earplugs to sleep. If I don't wear them, I don't sleep. (And they tear up my ears!) I can't nap either.

Hey onebratt- you might check to see if the ears plugs are "latex free" or not. My ears freak with the ones that are latex. Took me a long time to figure out that was a problem for me.

And onebratt- and randi- were you using the melatonin brand specified above? After all these years I've never heard of it keeping people awake- and here are two in a row! What's that about?

Melatonin used to keep me wide awake also. Tried multiple brands and experimenting with dosage amounts/timing. Many herbs with sedative effects also made me more awake.

Treating parasites was huge for me in getting rid of the insomnia. I was able to wean from temazepam to melatonin and herbs, which ironically are effective for me now. I've good a good sleep schedule now that I can do without those, except the melatonin significantly quiets my tinnitus so I keep it.

I recently did 23andme and had genes "analyzed" and was told that I have mutated genes causing high histamine and high glutamate and could be the reason for my inability to sleep without a med.

I didn't have insomnia before lyme though, so will wait to see if the the supplements recommended work.
