Hi Everyone, I have been off antibiotics for well over 2 years and believe I've successfully treated Lyme and Co., because I have held steady since stopping meds.
However, I still have symptoms and these symptoms wax and wane depending on my diet. So,through witnessing how I react to foods (especially certain ones) I believe these are symptoms directly related to Candida overgrowth. I'd love to hear others thoughts and experiences on yeast as well. And perhaps a good regime to eliminate it for good as I still struggle with the diet.
Symptoms: *Inner ear problems, to include dizziness. *Muscle pain, allover and in large muscles. *Vision issues, lots of floaters *Fatigue, excessive sleepiness, low energy *Foul smelling urine/stools (clearly smells sweet or yeasty). *Foul breath *MOOD SWINGS: Big time depression, anxiety, depersonalization *Anti-social: Due to the above mood swings. *Problems sleeping especially when treating it and frequent waking at night. *Possibly hormonal imbalances.
These get worse when I consume the following: Alcohol (worse offender) Sugar Gluten
So far, following the diet gives results but never long term. It's very difficult for me to stay on a strict diet and I usually eat something I shouldn't and feel bad again. I'd love to hear specifics on what others have eaten or supplemented with to help get their guts back in check and also to hear some of your symptoms.

Ive done the strictest of diet for long periods and I can't beat it that way,Lord knows Ive tried. Have you tried any antifungals(garlic, caprylic acid, nystatin) ? Ive found it a tormenting beast to kill. Keep plugging. Maybe look into low stomach acid.I feel for ya.

Hi shoeless joe! Thanks for your input. I have tried Diflucan but without adhering to the diet, it's just as difficult. What diet do you follow? No grains, no fruit ect.?
When I do eat poorly, I usually get acid reflux (another of my candida symptoms) so low acid could definitely be a problem for me. My very first symptom ever was acid reflux!
Wondering if anyone has seen a Naturopath or herbalist ect for candida? I'm thinking about going that route and hopefully getting advice on nutrition and supplements.

I pretty much have followed an atkins diet and for long lengths. As for me I couldn't starve them to death and Ive been as strict as can be. I also have reflux the last few years. I think low stomach acid and yeast go hand in hand. Im leary about taking antacids ,ppi, I see a great naturopath but something is in the way of me making progress, not for lack of trying thats for sure.

- You have to do both at the same time. Could also try Nystatin tablets long term.
It's a struggle.

Thank you all! Once I go on the diet for a while I feel my symptoms lift but I usually eat something bad and have to start over. The Candida doesn't like it!

Jamers, there's a wonderful, informative book called "Why Stomach Acid Is Good for You", by Dr. Jonathon Wright, founder/director of the Tahoma Clinic near Seattle. Here's a link to a review of the book from the Weston A. Price Foundation: Weston A. Price Foundation
I've been to the Tahoma Clinic, about 13-14 years ago and while granted, they didn't think to test me for Lyme, they immediately thought to test me for low stomach acid, and oh boy, was I in for a shock. The readout on the graph was nearly flat-lined, where there should have been huge spikes, indicating that my stomach acid had kicked in and was doing its job.
After reading this review you may want to buy the book. Or maybe not, since the reviewer did a great job of summarizing the whole thing! lol

Thanks Lymieloo! I will look into it for sure! Acid reflux and stomach issues were my first issues. Definitely a relationship here.

Lymieloo,
(I don't mean to detract from the thread), but what kind of test tests stomach acid levels? It would be helpful to know what my levels are!
I was on Prilosec for a number of years for heartburn, and so woefully regret that! Blame that on a duck (dumb mainstream doc).
So, I have been supplementing with HCL for about a year now, and am curious if Dr. Wright recommends a general dosage? I take a 650mg capsule with each meal, and sometimes have taken 2 capsules per meal. I almost never get heartburn anymore.
I have heard that supplementing with HCL can permanently shut down your stomach's production of it (I have heard Ben Lynch say this), and wish I knew for certain if I need it now, and how much.
