I'm a complicated case. I've done 6 years of antibiotics, along with 3 years of herbals.

Granted, I've never taken full doses of herbal killers for very long if at all.

In June 2014, I started zithromax+Malarone and did really well. However, in latae July, some bloodwork was off, so I took a month break from most meds. I used that rare break to get Igenex Complete Babesia test. I am IgG B. duncani positive, but FISH and PCR negative.

After the month break, I restarted zith
+Malarone, but the air hunger came back and currently, I'm on 8 months of air hunger more often than not.

We just switched LLMDs in January 2015 and he thought Bart could be causing my breathing problems. I was on Rifampin for 4 months along with Tetracycline for 5 months. Still have more bad breathing days than not.

So, in April, LLMD Rx'd Mepron, 3 weeks on/1 week off, which I took along with the Rifampin and Tetracycline. Not much changed except after my first one week break...

Just a few days upon restarting the Mepron, I herxed - increased breathing trouble, sweats, low grade "fever" of 99.4 for 2 days, uncomfortable chest, and a burning pain in my left armpit that radiated down the arm a little. The following week was the BEST week I've had since September 2014.

I did go to the ER the next day on the recommendation of my PCP. Everything was fine-O2 saturation 100%, troponin = 0, chest x-ray good, and blood work good.

LLMD said get off the Rifampin and Tetracycline. I've read they each can decrease Mepron availability by 40%, so it could have been decreased in my body by 80%!! Since I had taken Zithromax with Malarone for about 3 months over the summer of 2014, Doc gave me Biaxin instead to take with the Mepron.

I was in the ER twice in Nov 2014 for the breathing problems, and both times they did everything above, plus a D-Dimer, which was fine.

After my beautiful week of good breathing, I've now returned to the status quo during this, my second Mepron 1 week break. Lots of air hunger and burning pain in the lungs. They are heavy and it's just hard to get a good breath. I don't have congestion with this usually. Sometimes I cough for a minute or two, usually at night. It's weird. My pulmonary function tests have been fine. I've not heard of people saying their lungs burn or hurt with Babesia. Anybody?

Since starting Biaxin on May 12, I've had a few bouts of rapid heart rate that only last a few seconds to a minute or so. I've also gotten vibrations in my chest and uncontrollable shaking twice in the last week. Herx? Side effect?

The stupid left armpit/arm pain is also here and that makes me nervous.

Today, I busted out a few of the Buhner herbs to try to keep Bart at bay if that's what's coming out now: EGCG, Quercetin, Houttunyia tea, Hawthorn, Cordyceps.

I guess this could be a Babesia herx. Now that there's nothing reducing the availability of the Mepron, things could be bad from this full dose??

Also, I'm taking Serrapeptase 60,000 units once in the morning. I'm considering upping it to twice a day, or adding in Nattokinase before bed. Thoughts?

So, that's a lot of background. I'm wondering what is the purpose of the one week Mepron break? Is it to allow dormant or different forms of Babesia to emerge? So, would it be a bad idea to take an herbal killer such as artemisinin, neem, cryptolepis, or other killing herbals during this 1 week break?

I feel like I do have a lot of options left, and I will be so happy when I can breath without thinking about it!!

Thanks for any input!

I don't know the purpose of the 1 week break, but it is standard procedure. See this:

Maybe it is just to give the liver a break.

My doctor would rotate babesia meds with Lyme meds. So on the week off you could take meds for Lyme??
