I have searched the forums and have not found very many posts about those diagnosed with Ehrlichia.

Has anyone been diagnosed with Ehrlichia and NOT had the standard does of doxy work?

Does it have to be doxy with rifampin if doxy alone doesn't work-or can you use mino with rifampin, or even rifampin alone? I took doxy before but started getting bad sun rash on it and was taken off.

Has anyone treat Bart/Lyme at the same time as this?
I know its supposed to be an "easy" one to get rid of but I can't help but wonder if its gone...

Any advice welcome!

My LLMD said that Mino takes care of Lyme Borrelia and Ehrlichia at the same time.

Tulips- thanks for the response. That's what I was wondering- if mino could replace doxy.

lpkayak- I have no idea...I've read that as well. But I tested positive for it last year which was 4 years after initially feeling sick. I took Doxy in the fall for a few months. I just don't here about this one much so I was wondering if it really is as easy peasy to get rid of as I seem to read or if anyone has had issues getting rid of it.

Lisa K what did your DH take for this? Or you mean he just took general supplements and herbals for Lyme?

Page 25 of Burrascano gives you the treatment he recommends:

"TREATMENT

Standard treatment consists of Doxycycline, 200 mg daily for two to four weeks. Higher doses, parenteral therapy, and longer treatment durations may be needed based on the duration and severity of illness, and whether immune defects or extreme age is present. However, there are reports of treatment failure even when higher doses and long duration treatment with doxycycline is given. In such cases, consideration may be given for adding rifampin, 600 mg daily, to the regimen."

Here is another lyme doctor's take on it:

http://www.lymebook.com/antibiotic-treatment-for-babesia-bartonella-ehrlichia-co-infections

I have always heard that you must take doxy for ehrlichia. To avoid problems with the sun, you must stay totally out of the sun and wear gloves while driving and also a hat to keep the sun from coming in the windshield and burning your face.

There are some expensive, very light clothes that you can buy so that you can still go to the beach and sit under an umbrella.

The other alternative is to treat ehrlichia in the fall--October or later--if you really can't do the sun avoidance for some reason. Treat lyme and bart in the summer.

Thanks for the info TF! I have a copy of that as well.

I have just read a few posts here and there about people having a hard time getting rid of ehrlichia aside from the standard Dr. B guidelines of the 200mg doxy. So I was wondering if any of those people were still here/ had any recommendations aside from what is in Dr. B's guidelines. Assuming that the 200mg doxy didn't work. I know its says that rifampin can so I was wondering if people had experience with this.

Thank you for pointing me towards that though, always good to have you around!

Maybe your test will always be positive, just as your Lyme test will always be positive?

ellie, my DH did an herbal kit from our dr. he did a kit for each of his tick diseases, which did include lyme.

it also included taking cilantro. the kits were from Monastary of Herbs. this treatment plan seemed to work best for all 4 of us in my family that were tx for tick diseases. I was the only one that had abx.

A lot of the drugs that cover bartonella help this infection. I used IV rifampin, doxy. Not sure I ever cleared it, but it put it down for now.

Wasnt therr some talk about different strains of erlich or something? Or maybe its the same bug but something about certain ppl...a gene or environmental history makes it so doxy doesnt work

Doxy must work most of the time cuz itsctrue we dont talk about erlich that much
