I wrote on the forum the other day but i am still at a loss on what to do and desperately seeking someone who may be able to help me.
My head pressure at the temples and back of head started after 3 days on minocycline and one day on clindamycin. I stopped meds and went to the ER recommended by my doctor just to be safe seems i tried many different things to try and relieve a herx as we thought it may be that, none of which worked.

The ER doctor said due to red in my throat and fluid in my ear he thought it was a respiratory infection. He said my optic nerves were sharp so he didn't think there was any brain swelling and he never did an MRI or anything like that.

He gave me a different cyclin antibiotic and tylenol codeine to help the pain. I took the codeine and it didn't help my head pressure at all and has just made me feel even more off. I am also having weird eye symptoms and the light looks so bright to me and my noise sensitivity is even worse than before. When i close my eyes i see flashing lights and the inside of my nose feels like i have pressure in there too. It is really weird.

Yesterday my head pressure was so bad i went to the ER again. They did blood work and a ct scan all which were normal except low magnesium levels. I don't really know what to do next. Everything i try doesn't relieve the pressure. I have tried everything to relieve a herx and nothing works so i don't think that is the issue. I have been off abx 4 days now with no relief....and i don't feel like my doctor is listening to me. He hasn't suggested what i should do next. I'm worried this is a serious issue. I never had any head pressure issues before starting minocycline. I'm concerned this is brain swelling but no one seems to suggest a spinal tap to check.

The ct wouldn't pick up swelling?

I know. They were clueless. I guess they just did a ct to look for other scary problems.

IF IT WERE ME (and it's not), I would stop the antibiotics until the pain goes away.

Also .. if your test showed low magnesium then it is REALLY REALLY LOW.

Be sure to get some good magnesium like mag glycinate ASAP. Mag oxide is not well absorbed. Mag citrate MAY help, but get some mag glycinate on order.

You could also pick up some magnesium oil to tide you over or take an epsom salt bath each night.

Thank you. Yeah, going on 4 days now without the antibiotics. Not sure about it being a herx. Some said it sounds like intracranial hypertension, which minocycline is known to cause

I had similar issues with severe base of skull pain from another antibiotic.

I was treated with a diuretic.

I was never able to take mino. Had chest pains from that one.

BTW, ice helps too.

.
Low magnesium can cause sensitivity to light and sound, which you are having.
Low magnesium can cause headache, migraine, insomnia, depression, OCD, heart palpitations, and many other symptoms.

The liver uses magnesium to help detoxify poisons, like the neurotoxins from dead Lyme bacteria.
Low magnesium causes some of the Jarische-Herxheimer symptoms.

In addition to supplementing magnesium, take a good quality fish oil.
This will help the liver make the glutathione it needs to detoxify crap, and improve the ability of your cells to function.

Magnesium and fish oil will help reduce inflammation, which should help the head pressure and eye symptoms.

Are you taking any supplements to help liver function?
Magnesium
Fish oil
N-acetyl cysteine
Alpha lipoic acid
Acetyl l-carnitine
Milk thistle
Undenatured whey

Horrible Migraine? With the sensitivity to light, etc. I wonder if that could be it?

Mine haven't lasted as long as yours but I'm pretty sure I've read that they can.

Back when I had head pressure from Babesia duncani, my LLMD prescribed Diamox. He said it works for about half of his patients. Thankfully, it worked very well for me. I had the head pressure so bad that even lifting my head off my pillow made it worse, and forget about walking around. I was too sick to go to the ER, lol. I know it's not funny, but it's something many Lyme patients will understand.

CDC positive for: Lyme & Babesia duncani
Clinical diagnosis of: Bartonella
