I am getting my Igenix test next week. Is it worth it to get the 500 dollar complete Lyme panel or is the 250 dollar basic Lyme panel sufficient?

I did the $250 .. If you are loaded with dough then do the rest. Lyme is a clinical diagnosis, so your LLMD will do the diagnosing. The tests COULD miss it.

Be sure to get the blood drawn early in the week so the blood does not sit around in a post office.

You aren't on antibiotics, right?

i am not on antibiotics and I am not loaded with dough. If the 500 dollar test is more reliable then I will do it. If it is superfluous than I will not.

Refresh my memory on what else is in that group? a PCR would be one guess.

The PCR is great IF it comes back positive. That is a bell-ringer. But if it's negative, you could STILL have Lyme.

Yes the only difference is PCR. If I have Lyme, I have had it for 10-20 years. Do I have less of a chance of testing positive?

Also, I have been going crazy over this (if you can't tell) and went and got a quickie western blot done at some local lab where you can order any test you want. I will have the results only Tuesday. I now understand that there is a great chance for a false negative but if I somehow came up positive I would feel so vindicated.

As much as I don't want Lyme disease I am praying I come back positive because that would mean that I had a chance at getting my life back. I am only 27 and I feel like how I imagine elderly people feel.

Breaking up the post for easier reading for many here -

You just never know about testing. You have a chance .. mine was never clearly positive but it doesn't mean a lot as long as you have a doctor who takes your symptoms into account.

If you have "Lyme-specific" bands on the WB, then it's got to be Lyme. Can't be anything else.

Many here can relate to wanting a positive test!!!

If you qualify as low income, www.lymetap.com will cover 75% of IGeneX text costs! Check them out -

I had Lyme for 25 years and tested 4-band positive on the IGeneX test. We never know if we're going to test positive or not.

You can take positive to the bank, so to speak, but there are 27 reasons why a test might not come back positive and someone still have it - no borrelia in the sample, antibodies bound up in immune complexes, etc. That's why doctors treat clinically often.

Sometimes a person gets a positive result after some treatment, when the immune system is stronger.

I know the feeling - I was greatly relieved to find out there was an answer. Whether you get a positive result or not, if you start to treat for the infection, you will feel better in time.

Up to you if you want to have a discussion about your symptoms in another thread perhaps - people can respond about what they do about those symptoms. We're all different in how we respond to remedies.
