Now having a shingles outbreak, but caught it early. If only I can give up eating nuts for awhile!
Recently I've been posting that I was having severe herxing with acyclovir to treat a reactivated Epstein Barr virus (EBV). So I was looking for alternatives to treat the EBV.
In the past, I have successfully and easily used acyclovir to treat shingles, and it's been very helpful for that. Had no herxing with it at all, just felt better.
After decidedly going off the acyclovir, and swearing to never return to it, I did a complete turnaround and decided that herx or not, I had to take it to prevent the shingles from getting worse. Also taking lysine and Vit C.
I guess prioritize. Never say never. Breathe. Do your best. Be flexible. Keep trying. Practice gratitude. Stay hopeful.

Shingles are rough . Noxema cold cream helped me after showering, as I could hardly stand when air hit . Took the same drug u mentioned for weeks. It does help, but mine still returned 3 months later. Then, felt like they were inside . Seemed with me they caused fathom pain in lower half and breast too. Gyno said that can happen . Mammograms ok. All other tests ok, so when Lyme people like us get shingles it must create havoc for awhile. Keep the faith. It does get better.

If you can, stay out of the sun and get lots of sleep.
I just learned both of those reactivate viruses after I had an insane rash. My new LLMD thought the rash was a reactivation of a virus (making the sleep/sun suggestion) and after testing he proved correct.

A knowledgeable naturopath can treat chronic EBV/herpes virus through L-lysine supplementation and a low Arginine diet, which "starves" the virus.
Sounds like you have been doing some of this, but from what I understand you have to be committed to the protocol (diet and supplementation)...

This is a simple one to solve. Just cut out ALL Arginine predominant foods from your diet, and yeah that includes nuts. Viruses are absolutely loathe to live in a body with minimal Arginine. Dairy products are your best friend. They have double the amount of Lysine than Arginine. Simply doing a primarily milk diet for a week alone would weaken it considerably.

Green, I'm not sure what you mean by feeling it inside, although, before I have an outbreak, I can feel it developing, if that's what you mean. I have not experienced phantom pain, that sounds awful for you!
All good suggestions, rest, out of sun, OLE, diet very important. No, I do not have a rife machine.
Regarding the diet, on a regular basis I don't eat dairy (doctor says), and do chow down the nuts (I crave). Also, I take lysine supplements, and have not had a shingles outbreak since last year.
Stress is also playing a role.
