Okay, I have horrible burning pain in the joint of my big toe.

I've had two doctors say it looks like gout.

I'm in NO risk groups (at least no KNOWN risk groups).

[confused]

Does anyone else have this? How do you treat it???

Diet is good, not overweight, not menopausal. Totally confused!!!

Can't wear shoes. I've been in such a mess since levaquin. The joint has hurt since last year, but NOTHING like this.
[confused]

There's a simple blood test for it.

I've heard that many take tart cherry juice to help. Might also help to avoid foods high in oxalates.

If you truly have gout, you need to know. There are preventative meds you might need to be on and certain other foods to avoid.

Hope it gets better soon! Keep us posted!

I read a book by Paavo Airola, "There is a cure for Arthritis" - in it he mentioned gout. I was having some toe pains too, so I followed his recommendations and the pains went away.

There was a bit about diet changes, like eliminating food with purines from our diet.

Also, do you take turmeric? It's helping me alot with joint and muscle pain. I get it in bulk and dip 00-size capsules in it.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to hobble to the store and get some tart cherry juice. This is madness.

I have a problem with oxalates. I'm going to review those foods again. Thanks!

It's so weird, I don't eat ANY purine foods. Only grains (which I've seen as being good on one list and bad on another). I don't the high oxalate or purine ones either.

[confused]

I don't eat much, but you never know with with how wacko our bodies can be.

I'm seeing a master herbalist. Turmeric is part of the formula I'm taking.

Hubby has that. He could control it at first taking apple cider vinegar in big amounts (awful, isn't it?).

As it became chronic, now he has no other choice than control his food, beer, etc...

It is working. He is using basic salts in powder to de-acidify his body. Then taking Vit C in greater amounts, 2x daily. A naturopath recommended him loads of chlorella, but he took it in the past, now he doesn't want to take it.

I guess Omega 3 supplements will also help. Then dieting to avoid uric acid building up. Loads of water, feet up, cold packs, not much movement there.

good luck!

My husband and I have both had Gout and there is a cure: Black Cherry Juice. The first night that I had it, the pain in my big toes (which quickly spread to my feet) was so bad that I couldn't walk at all.

That night, my husband brought me a glass with one inch of Black Cherry Juice in it every hour on the hour and by morning, I could walk again.

The Gout attack was brought on by my having ham sandwiches two days on a row for lunch and then having bacon and eggs for breakfast.

If you are prone to Gout, you must never have a steady diet of pork. I now eat no pork and I never get Gout. You must buy 100% Black Cherry Juice with no other juices mixed in.

Knudsen is a good brand. I buy it at Giant Foods. Lakeland also makes a black cherry juice that is 100%. I've tried Tart Cherry Juice but it didn't work for me.

For a severe Gout attack, I would take 1/4-1/2 glass of Black Cherry Juice. If you drink a lot of it, it will cause diarrhea but that's not a bad thing as it is detoxing the body.

Hi Tulips,

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for the tip on pork! I don't eat much, but will definitely avoid.

I got some tart cherry juice yesterday (Lakewood and Smart Juice).

I had a glass yesterday and one this morning.

No improvement. [Frown]

I'll look for the BLACK cherry juice. Thank you!

This hurts and burns like hell.

No shoes for me.

Black Cherry Juice (Knudson is great, Lakewood is also great) will fix you up in short measure. Drink about 4 oz the first time. In a couple of hours, drink about 1 oz and then in about 3 hours, drink another 1 oz. Then the next day, drink 1 oz. 4 times per day and then go to 3 times a day. Then you should only need to do 1 or 2 ounces per day about 3 times a week for a couple of weeks.

Good luck.

When the problem is big and chronic, fast solutions do not work.

Hubby was on pounds and pounds of REAL FRESH black cherry, for day on. His gout attack did not recede.

He got results in the past with apple cider vinegar. He could stop gout many times with it. But as with everything, when it turned chronic, he needed to change his whole diet. No fast solution.

To avoid CERTAINLY: salamis, all processed pork stuff: do not touch that.

I think the ACV is something I've read about as well. Sorry the tart cherry didn't work!

My father had gout. He took a prescription to prevent attacks. It worked really well.

My mom was later diagnosed with it as well, but it may have been a misdiagnosis. I think both my parents had Lyme.

I should make sure that it is gout by getting the blood test.

Sometimes if neuropathy gets severe, it can be very sore, burning and painful in the toes. Mine has got much worse in recent months, although it does vary in intensity.

I already have neuropathy. I didn't know they were related. Thanks!

The gout is better, not healed, but improved. Thanks for the suggestions!

Tart Black cherry juice helps...my hubby...same...confirmed gout with CT scan of toe.

Look closely at D3 *with* vitamin K2. Synergy.

And look at resveratrol (read last sentence in abstract):

Before I got diagnosed with Lucy,e, I went to the podiatrist as I was sure I had gout! It hurt behind my large toe on one foot.

I had an x-Ray, couldn't find anything. Doc told me to wear inserts in my shoes [confused]

I too had no risk factors, figured it was a joint swelling from the Lyme or just unknown pain that dissipated

Andromeda .. Orthotics helped my big toe pain. I doubt it was gout in my case. I think I would have been in a LOT more pain. But "inserts" can take the pressure off of areas where pressure should not be.

(and I presume that "Lucy,e" is "Lyme?") [Wink]

Gout can not be seen through x-ray, that I know....

Doc has to measure the amount of uric acid in the blood, at least, that is what we were told. We've been to 3 countries' hospitals, they ALL made the same acid uric test!

gout = excess of acid uric CRYSTALS formed in the joints causing inflammation.

Acid uric crystals look like NEEDLES in the microscope, that's why they cause inflammation.
