please don't scold about the cortisone. It was a conscious choice. I was in severe pain in my knee, bone on bone osteoarthritis. doing PT but the pain was throwing off other body parts and I was spiraling further downhill... And needed to stop the pain in my knee so I can rebuild strength. It was a truly thought out risks vs results decision. I have been Lyme symptom free for many years (aches and pains, but not Lyme like and no herxes from abx for other things)
But wondering if you can put your great diagnostic brains together to help me figure out what this could mean... Besides the obvious (Lyme or candida) what would cause someone be allergic to cortisone? Or not tolerate it? This is my third allergic reaction to a cortisone shot over the past 20 years. I was told time and time again that you can't be allergic to cortisone...that it had to be the lidocaine, so I got this shot without the novocaine.
Day and a half later. A rash started. It is now covering my body... This happened 4 years ago as well(with lidocaine) . But this one is worse. Oddly, while creating rash inflammation it took care of my knee, as well as my sinus polyps...iI can smell for the first time in a year.
I'm looking for thoughts on what sort of specialist to see to figure out this mystery... Why would someone be allergic to or not able to tolerate cortisone? It is a scary allergy for someone with severe allergies and a family history of autoimmune.
And second, what else can I do to get this rash to move through me quicker? Drinking lots of water. Taking antihistamines. Zantac, 400 mg Doxycycline as it's always helped my other rashes in the past, 400 in case it activated Lyme, and we don't want to make cysts (good PCP.)

- Take photos and put into your medical file for future detail. I also think more an allergy than anything else.
Find out what else was in that shot. Every ingredient. But they are wrong, you can absolutely be allergic to the cortisone. What is it's SOURCE, anyway? It's not likely from human source so your body will see it as foreign. -

Tutu, The only time i've used prednisone was for rashes I already had. The prednisone never stopped them... made them more tolerable but they kept spreading sometimes for months... so perhaps... oh, and when i used topical cortisone on the rashes it would clear where I put it, but then pop up/spread right next to it...
Thanks for the nettle and gotu kola ideas Keebler. I will try those... tea?

- Well, you could take as a tea but I suggest stronger and more condensed in capsule form or powder where you'd mix 1/8 tsp in water and just drink that.

You can be allergic to one steroid and not the other. I am allergic to prednisone (rash!) but I have tolerated other formulations without a problem. I too have had to have steroid shots in a couple of joints in order to function. Don't feel guilty.
