Just curious if anyone has had this with Lyme/TBDs, and if so had the same thing happen to them: My teeth got very bad very fast after getting sick. Eventually, I needed dentures. The year before I got all my teeth pulled, I developed trigeminal neuralgia.

After I got my teeth out, the TN went away. It also would usually flare up when my migraines would, about every 30 days.

It is possible, I suppose, that regular tooth infection could have contributed to the nerve acting up, but I have never had a dental infection on such a schedule. (They also claimed they didn't see any abscess in the area of pain on x-rays).

I know a lot of people have their TN NOT go away simply by getting teeth pulled; just not sure if that includes those who get them all done at once. Am I making sense? [Big Grin]

Any thoughts on anything TN/teeth/Lyme, etc. related appreciated.

I think there is definitely a dental link to my illness. I even went so far as to get a dental implant removed because I was so convinced that it had to be contributing to my symptoms.

I have lost almost all hearing in ear near that tooth. I have buzzing, sizzling, tingling sensations with intermittent dental and jaw bone pain that is more pronounced on that side.

From what I have read, dental tubules are great places for the spirochetes to hang out. And of course there are also 'dental spirochetes' that can wreak havoc as well.

The root canaled tooth next to my dental implant did become infected. I did not have any dental pain at the time, but still had all of the sizzling and tingling sensations. I developed a fistula in the roof of my mouth near that tooth and that is how we found out it was infected!

I am sure this is a vulnerable area for me. I am glad that you no longer have TN. I know I don't have this because I do not have the horrid nerve pain that people experience with it. But I certainly have some type of nerve damage or inflammation in this part of my body.

There is a dentist who occasionally contributes here. I hope he will chime in.

I developed trigeminal neuralgia while on inadequate lyme treatment. It was horrendous! At first I would get an attack after chewing meat at supper (the most strenuous chewing of the day). But, after so many of these attacks, then I could get an attack at any time.

I found that taking Benedryl would keep episodes at bay. Then, I got to a great lyme doctor and got good Burrascano style treatment and the TN went away.

Before I was diagnosed with lyme disease, I had a lot of dental pain. It led my dentist to do root canals on first one molar and then the one next to it. It didn't help the pain and he sent me to an oral surgeon who declared the problem "inflammation." I lived on anti-inflammatories and narcotic pain medication until winter was over and warm weather arrived.

For about 5 months, I just wanted to cut my head off that dental pain was so bad. It felt like a severe burning pain traveling down my jaw, like liquid fire. I was miserable.

So, I have had so much facial/dental/head pain with lyme that nothing would surprise me. I also had bilateral bells palsy (a mild case, called facial drooping) for 3 long years prior to being diagnosed. Then, one day I woke up and it was gone.

I also had extremely dry eye and extremely dry mouth. I had to doctor for both. Also sound sensitivity and many other types of disorders of the cranial nerves.

Whatever nerve lyme attacks, that nerve will malfunction and you will suffer the symptoms. Lyme is capable of anything since it is essentially a disease of the nervous system.

I also had brain involvement which showed on an MRI.
