so I weakened and went off the wagon and ate a little something sweet.... now I cannot stop and I want to put spoonfuls of sugar in my mouth! (not really, but I have thought of it)

gross!!!

how can I stop it. it is like a friend of mine at the moment and I don't think I can live without it.

I know I go through this every time I binge, and I have stopped before, but it's so hard taknig that first step!

anyone have any pointers or tricks? I dont think I can go cold turkey. but that is usually the only way to do it. it has taken my mind and I feel possessed by it. o dear

If you can, just don't let simple sugar even get into your home. Or, keep it to just 80% dark chocolate or honey (use sparingly).

Never eat that other than AFTER a meal, though.

Are you getting enough protein, with each meal and at each snack, too?

Same with fat.

And the carbohydrates you eat, be sure they are who, real from the earth . . . season with garden herbs and spices and a good oil.

Look up GLYCEMIC INDEX and that detail should be of help.

So much craving for simple carbs is because we don't get the real foods we need.

The COMPLEX CARBS (broccoli is in season, wild rice nice, too) are so good for us because they help hold our blood sugar stable throughout hours - along with protein and fat - and no there are no drops, ideally because the complexity of real food takes far longer to digest and provides a steady stream of good carbohydrates to provide energy.

But if a meal is missing protein and fat, even the best complex carbohydrates can't give your body all it needs for a steady flow of energy.

You might try out various kinds of fats but extra virgin olive oil is top.

MAGNESIUM is also important to prevent cravings.

Changing the style of foods you cook, or bring in some different kinds of ethnic meals may be a life saver for you, as long as healthful principles are at the base.

You might seek out some cooking classes (or home classes) for MEDITERRANEAN COOKING.

Even if Asian food might be too spicy, there are ways to tone it down, too. I find that I must have FLAVOR. But that can start with sautéing onion, garlic, fennel root, ginger . . . and then just being creative with garden herbs and spices.

Build your spice cabinet. Experiment with toasted sesame oil or avocado oil.

Candida control & Adrenal support both likely also need some reinforcements. Issues with either can cause cravings.

It's the candida talking .. the bad bacteria SCREAM to be fed.

I don't know what to tell you. For me, I just have to STOP!! It can be hard to do sometimes.

Try removing the sugar from your home. I know it's hard when you have children!

Overeaters Anonymous. You will have people to support you. You don't have to be overweight to go to OA.

It sounds to me like you may have a substance addiction. NO matter how hard you try you can't seem to stop.

I do a sugar step-down. First, no white sugar, but I eat fruit. I always get a mild headache in the beginning - lasts a couple days.

Then I start to eliminate the sweet fruit. By then, I no longer crave sugar.

once I am off of sugar I don't crave it at all. but when I slip off the good way it's a fast delcine to sugar sin! for me.

keebler you are right in that I have been neglecting my other ways of eating and the sugar takes over. I have not been to the grocery store much as I dont' feel like shopping or cooking much at all lately. working through my current 'new' lyme tx which just ended last night, so maybe now I can feel better soon and get back into the swing.

I used to be a gourmet cook years ago. now I despise cooking. no joy in it. not becasue I am limited in what I can eat.. that's not it. im not sure what it is. maybe just feeling sick has taken it all away. last night I overloaded on good n plenty. I was unstoppable. today I am not craving any suger or sweet- yet- but if I have even the slightest bit I know I will want the whole figurative cookie jar.

I didn't take my candida meds all this time because I was afraid to have the runs while working at my new job. this week is my last week of work and I am going to start the Candicid Forte now.

I love flavor and savory foods, and yummy recipes without sugar, but they are harder to prepare and etc. I wish I had a chef. like we all wish i am sure.

I try to even get easy meals like frozen or snacks without siguar from the healthy store, but the're really aren't much out there. today I am going food shopping and vowing to be a good shopper. no sugar!

Haley, I do eat sometimes out of frustration. like last night I went to pick up son's meds becasue dr office ASSURED me it would be there after 5 , and of course it wasn't, so all I wanted were those good n plenty. I am so weak. revenge eating.

Robin, that sounds good. but I don't want sugary fruit ever. I used to , but now , no. not even juice apeals to me. is there anything else that would be a 'between' food for sweet?

Lymetoo, yes. cold turkey. that is what I have done in the past countless times, but it always seems frightening right before I do it.... AND trick or treat is this week!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

If you don't buy it you cant eat it. Simple and effective strategy for me. I go grocery shopping and buy only things I want available to me in my house. And Im too lazy to go fast food or anything so the only options I have are the foods in my home.

You might also have someone else do all the shopping for a month or so - so you do not even see the stuff in the store.

If you do go yourself, do not go when you are hungry or tired (low blood sugar can hit big then and then all bets are off). Do not look around. Do not stray into dangerous territory - and do not look at displays near the checkout.

Still, make a list and buy ONLY what's on that list (obviously, use a pen that will not write any foods that are bad for you!).

Dark berries, tart apples . . . be sure you have some on hand always (best after a meal, in moderation) -- your kids would likely do better with those, too.

And nuts. Nut butters. Be sure you have enough good choices and variety.

The effects were startling, they reported. After nine days,

blood pressure went down by an average of five points,

the triglyceride measurement of cholesterol fell by 33 points,

low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad" cholesterol) fell by 10 points,

and blood sugar and insulin levels both fell, also.

"Despite intensive efforts to maintain each participant's body weight at baseline levels, weight decreased by (about two pounds) over the 10 days of intervention," the researchers wrote.

Plus, the kids said they felt less hungry. A third of them said they could not eat enough food to stop losing weight.

"They told us it felt like so much more food, even though they were consuming the same number of calories as before, just with significantly less sugar. Some said we were overwhelming them with food," Schwarz said.

"I have never seen results as striking or significant in our human studies; after only nine days of fructose restriction, the results are dramatic and consistent from subject to subject."

I bought some prunes. boy they are sweet! haha

I did eat some sugar today, but way less. I hope tomorrow is better.

I feel for you! I like tasty stuff too!

I drink Virgil's Zero Root Beer if I really need something sweet. I just got hooked on Kevita drinks too which are sweetened with stevia, and have apple cider vineger and probiotics.

I try to do healthier sweet if I really need it.

Judy, I sometimes drink zevia soda, but passed it up yesterday at the grocery . I was so tempted, but that is really sweet and I know it will make me want more if I drink it. trick or treat is tomorrow and I have 2 bags of candy here.... maybe after that I can be good. I am such a weakling.

why do we go through these phases or spurts or whatever??

sometimes I don't want any sugar and I stay clean for long periods. then I succumb and that is it. I become a slave to it. it this some cycle that tick disease creates? do other people have these binge and desert types of things? I feel like dr Jeckyl Mr Hyde

I didn't have a problem cutting sugar but I always found that sucking a lemon helps cravings for me. Drinking a small glass of water helps too. For whatever that's worth!

Magnesium will help you "go."

I read that eating foods high in oxalates will make you crave sugar. May be true for me.

Lisa, you asked if there is any substitute for sugary fruit. What about carrots? I think they are the sweetest in the vegetable category.

If you can't tolerate sweet fruits, then I think you need to stick to a noncandida diet. Means to have all the right food around you and with you so you won't be tempted. I had to set that up in my life. Of course, I was single and you have a family. So you may need to think about how you will accomplish your goal.

I am not eating sugar and I feel much better, I feel lighter, more energy, I'm losing weight easily by not eating sweet foods. I had a headache for a couple days at first, but I knew why I was doing it and stuck with it.

I also think my immune system will be better for not having sugar depress the WBCs.

The herb gymnestra sylvestre. Is supposed to take away that sugar desire for some people, so you could look into that, especially as aome say that it is good for candida too..
