Hi everyone.

I haven't been here for awhile mainly because we have been spending the last two years retiring and settling into our retirement home.

I've was doing fantastic until the summer before we retired. No ABTs, just maintenance Omega Oils, Flax Oil, CoQ10 and aspirin.

On the 4th of July, 2013 our 4 month old pups were playing and knocked into me from behind knocking me flat.

I broke a couple of ribs and was pretty miserable for about 8 weeks. The end of August I felt well enough that we went to a bike rally and did a lot of cycling. I felt great.

Two days later I bent over loading a bike bag to ride to work and felt as though somebody had stabbed me in the back at the right lumbosacral region of my back.

The pain was excruciating and was very much a repeat of the back pain I went through during my initial treatment for Lyme back in 2009-2010 with one exception.

This time it didn't go away in 8 to 10 weeks as it had back then.

In the meantime, we are closing a business and second home, getting them ready for sale and moving everything to our retirement home meaning I was doing a lot of lifting, shoving and hurting.

I tried everything imaginable but the pain was severe enough that it made sleeping rough. I even tried a couple of weeks of Minocycline which eased things off by once again, the pain remained.

Finally I was forced to find a new doctor and dreaded as to what their status was concerning dealing with Lyme disease. Happily my fears were unfounded as the PA working with me was more than open to treatment.

They increased my Gabapentin, Flexaril and Ultram and sure enough, within three weeks of taking the medicines in higher dosages I was beginning to feel better.

9 months later I was assigned a new PA who listened to me when I told her that as long as I took the Gabapentin (hate it but it works) Flexaril (not fond of it either) and Ultram (makes me sleepy but made the pain go away) I felt fine, nd then asked me if I had to my knowledge, hurt my back.

The unusual thing about this siege of pain is that it took drastic medication dosages to make it go away. It just didn't want to settle down with Minocycline as it usually did.

She suspected that the anti-inflammatory aspect of Minocycline was the tipping point in making me feel better but suspected something else was going on.

Two weeks later I was seeing a DO who looked at my back and did some testing for nerve impingement. My back, he said, was a mess and I had probably injured it when I was knocked down by our pups.

I had two treatments and slowly the pain has subsided. Not gone but tolerable now. I feel like I am just living on borrowed time as to when I am going to bend over wrong and once again be setting off the severe pain and inflammation again.

I am also sure that this is somehow connected to my Lyme as when the pain flares, I run a low grade temperature and have flu like symptoms that are all too familiar to me.

I've been advised to avoid stress.(How DO you do that?) and not to let the pain settle in before I call for an appointment.

At the moment I'm taking Flexaril in the morning and Gabapentin and Ultram at night so I can rest without pain.

I've taken Flax Seed Oil, Omega Oils, Niacin, CoQ10 and Vitamin D3 for ages along with high dose ASA for inflammation for years.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what has happened to my back and has anyone else gone through this?

I'm an active 62 but this has really hit me hard.

Is there anything else I should be doing to help myself?

Hey Nemo! I remember you! Welcome back!

Sorry to hear about all that pain! Ugh!!! Just a thought and it may have absolutely nothing to do with your situation, but have you been checked for babesiosis? All strains?

One of the symptoms can be very nasty low back pain.

Also, you might want to check out one of these doctors who does wonders for many with pain and Lyme stuff, with no drugs. Usually takes insurance.

Lettuce no how you are doing and if you find something that helps.

Hi Nemo--

Sorry about your back!

Wow-- Im 59, and I realized about two years ago that I can no longer do things like moving heavy objects or other physically stressful things. I now also prohibit my hubby from doing these things--- even if it costs money to hire someone. (Its tough cuz Im a skinflint..lol)

Moving is stressful both physically and mentally, and this could have caused a flare, in addition to the physical injury from your large but adoring puppies....LOL...

Please let your body completely rest for a few weeks! Rest really does help to heal.

I have prayed to the Lord to heal your back-- who knows, maybe He will!!

Perhaps you should also try some detoxifiers such as Licorice root, Sarsaparilla or Burdock root drops. These ostensibly bind to borrelia burgdorferi botulinum-like endotoxins-- the poisons that can also make us feel so bad, (aside from our own inflammatory immune reactions)---and they can reduce the pain by nullifying the toxins. ( Just make sure to watch your blood pressure if you take lots of Licorice root.) Start with organic Licorice tea.

Also try a good green drink every day with chlorella. I really like I really like MacroLife Macrogreens and I add in extra chlorella to it. I take this along with Cilantro drops-- research has proven that cilantro together with Chlorella can detoxify heavy metals including mercury and aluminum within 40 days.

Oh--- and don't forget Turmeric.. its very antiinflammatory, and research also shows that it actually kills a dental spirochete--- which may mean that it is also active against the borrelia spirochete.

I like to include a mix of safe herbals that are are antispirochaetal, anti-inflammatory, and also bind up bacterial endotoxins...

I feel strongly that Sarsaparilla, Licorice root and Burdock root have helped reduce my Lyme arthritis-- which luckily is confined to my knees, feet, shoulders and hands-- not my back!! Back problems are terrifying. Olive leaf extract also helped me, but the arthritis came back worse, after I discontinued the Olive Leaf extract. Strange, huh..

Sarsaparilla tastes great in soda water. I also like the bitter taste of Burdock in water. I rotate these a lot in teas and tinctures..

Good luck and god bless. I hope your back heals today!!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I remember you too, tincup! How are you doing?

I haven't been treated or tested for co-infections and wondered about Babs myself.

Problem is that I have a lumbar scoliosis that has given me problems for years along with a very active non typical rheumatoid arthritis plus the Lyme so it has been a bit of a balancing act trying to figure out which one is causing the problems.

I have to have labs done in March so maybe I can casually slip that suggestion in when I go in.

I will also look into the Sarsaparill and other herbs. I love licorice so will probably enjoy the tea.

Yes, our move was tough. At our age all of our friends are as old or older as we are and mostly in a lot worse shape physically than we are which is going some.

We moved everything from safes to motorcycles. My body was really stressed.

Plus my husband encountered a bad tick bite with bulls eye and subsequent joint pain in his back similar to mine so there is a good possibility that although he hasn't been officially diagnosed.

He talked to his doctor about it and at the time he was taking Biaxin for a sinus infection. His doctor didn't discount the possibility that he did have the 'bug' and hoped that the Biaxin got it before it got him....yeah, right.

So the move was like I said, rough on both of us.

It has been about 5 weeks since my first treatment from my DO and I have been able to decrease my pain medicines but just feel as though as I said, I'm living on borrowed time with the pain recurring so I will definitely look into getting the licorice root tea and start there.

I know a lady who didn't get diagnosed until she was suffering from horrible joint pain. 20+ years and always prayed that I didn't get the pain she suffered.

Oh well, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes.

Feel good today, everyone!
