Has anyone used this supplement ? Is it safe?

Just went to vitamine shoppe today and it says it promotes healthy sleep .. My insomnia has been awful. Anyone take this before or know if it's beneficial?

I tried it for a short period of time, and I think it gave me mild muscle cramping-- but I cant say for sure whether it was the 5-HTP.. Everyone is different though and I can't say whether it is safe.

Often just trying it once will let you know if it works.

Have you tried Ashwaganda? I have heard it is excellent for both sleep and anxiety, and researchers are showing that it also helps Alzheimers-- which has been shown to be borreliosis(Lyme) biofilm in the brain by Dr. Alan MacDonald, a prominent researcher.

Melatonin also supposedly works.

Good luck. Oh and try exercising at least 5 hours before bed and eliminate Iced tea and coffee after 2pm. For some reason, Iced tea gives me major insomnia-- more than coffee.

My husband uses 5 HTP regularly. He had no problems with it.

I use it occasionally when I have several nights of waking up at 2 or 3 and can't fall back to sleep again. Then I'll take 5 HTP for a few nights until I'm sleeping good again.

Hubby also used melatonin for sleep. There for awhile when the insomnia was really bad he used both 5 HTP and melatonin.

I tried the melatonin but didn't like it. I felt 'foggy' the next morning.

I've tried 5htp but it didn't help. I now use Liquid Melatonin and it puts me to sleep within 30 minutes. Melatonin capsules weren't as reliable.

I used it for years. After a while I guess I didn't need it because when my doctor tested me and found my levels high, I stopped and didn't have trouble falling asleep without it.

It did work in the beginning.

You also might try valerian. Or have an alternative practitioner run some tests on why you're not sleeping. My cortisol doesn't lower at night, so my functional med doc has me on things to balance hormones. If hormones weren't the problem, these things wouldn't work. It's good to find out why you're not sleeping.
