Hello,<<<<< Lymenet Family >>>>>,

Seems the 'symbiotes' we all carry, are out of balance for me right now [ mini-bitty-tiny-Mites].

When I went eye exam, Dr. showed me a pic' of my eyelashes, and what is happening, I've had issues for years, was told once it was 'enzyme build up. She says it is this issue of Blepharitis caused by demodex mites.

We checked the Occusoft preparation, and it cost more than many of my supplements. So I am looking for possible alternatives that would be safe and gentle.

Anyone ever watch the old 'Northern Exposure' series on TV? They had an episode about basic mites, and parasites that live on the human body. It was rather humorous at the time, not so humorous if the situation gets an overgrowth.

If anyone has a suggestion I'd be grateful for info'. I know filtered water and a soft washcloth can help. This may take a bit more for while tho' to get things in balance.

Hellooooo... helloooooo... hellooooo...

Did I use up my question quota??

Hoping some one else might have found something that helps... since Bartonella can goop up the eyes [it's one of my co-infection issues].

The Bart' likely got things out of balance for me.

Are you talking about the ocusoft lid scrubs? If so, my eye doc told me that baby shampoo and warm water work well. If not, then I don't know. Hopefully you will get a good answer one way or another.

I've heard of this but have never had any experience with it. Don't they have a prescription for it?

Seems maybe that would be cheaper??

Hi-lo <<<<< me from USA, Lymetoo, bluelyme, an 'TxC' >>>>>,

Yup 'me', I was talking about Occusoft, I've heard of using baby shampoo also with water, right now I'll have to dilute it more than usual [eyes are extra sensitive].

Lymetoo,we are finding out, that there's a lot of things that don't get done for Medicaid folk. Prescription would have been a help.

Blue', did you mean H2O as in water??

As TxC' tried to say,I don't think Peroxide is good anywhere near the eyes. Years back a family member had to go to the hospital from an accidental H202 splash to the eye.

A thorough gentle and quick eye wash, and an eye patch for awhile saved the eye.

Thanks to each replier for the ideas!

Here is something that might be of help to you (I found this info googling natural treatments for Demodex mites on eyelids & eyelashes):

"Of all the oils you can put on your skin, coconut oil penetrates the deepest. It goes right down to below the hair follicles. It's a powerful antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral.

It has all sorts of good things in it, plus it contains the enzyme lipase, which breaks down the lipid shells we call plugs. It's also the best treatment for keratosis pilaris (besides a Rife machine) that I'm aware of.

It's not as greasy as other oils, and it's absorbed very well, so it's more comfortable under your clothing or bedding.

Plus, you can cook with it, use it for oil pulling, and if you ingest three teaspoons of it a day, it will kill viruses and bacteria in your body that try to protect themselves from your immune system by coating themselves with lipid "armour."

But please note that it's ONLY the organic extra virgin variety that performs these miracles - the commercial hot-pressed muck has zero therapeutic value. It's becoming much more common and easily available these days - I get mine in my local supermarket.

If all else fails, you should be able to find it in a decent health food store or online."

I don't know if you have tried this, but you might want to look into also taking Olive Leaf Extract orally along with applying the coconut oil topically. It is a natural antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal herb.

The best one is Seagate brand. See their website at www.seagateproducts.com

Btw - I am in no way affiliated with this product or company, just trying to help.

Read Dr. Morton Walker's book, "Olive Leaf Extract" which you might find in your local library or buy it used on Amazon for very little.

Here is a link for a very informative thread on Lymenet about OLE:

Hey hoping and praying and Silver...

I liked hoping and praying's coconut oil idea, then starting thinking/remembering. Funny how SLOWLY the bits and pieces come back when trying to remember. HA!

I had researched blepharitis several years ago. It said it could be caused by several things, staph infection included. I was prescribed an antibiotic at the time and told to wash eyes and surrounding areas with a diluted baby shampoo. No problem since.

One thing I did note in my researching was that oils could cause the problem. I only remember this because a good doc gave me some oil mixture to use around my eyes (not related to blepharitis- prior to that time) and I'd been using coconut oil on my face and around my eyes prior to the blepharitis appearing too.

And who knows, it could be the ice cream I ate that month caused it- meaning no one seems to have a specific ONE reason for getting blepharitis. (Skin around my eyes and other areas was dry and flaky where the Lyme ACA has appeared.).

Anyhow, I mentally connected the use of the oils (including the coconut oil) to the new eye problem and of course stopped using it around my eyes. I just tried researching it again, but tired out before finding whatever I'd read earlier.

My concern/question is could the oils be ok if the condition is caused by mites (rather than an infection), or not? I have no clue, but just thought I'd mention this. (I use coconut oil all the time still, but no longer around my eyes.)

I also noted tonight that the mites Silver mentioned have a 3 week life cycle, so you'd need to treat daily for at least a month.

I also checked out the Ocusoft pads mentioned and wrote to the company that makes them to see if we can at least get some discount coupons for you to use. If I hear any good news back, will let you know.

Now to get back to putting away groceries. Ugh....

Hi <<<<< hopingandpraying and Tincup >>>>>,

Thanks for the info', I use a product now that has OLE in it, and had wondered about the coconut oil if it might help, most of the time my skin is way to dry.

I'm wondering about a gentle rubbing w/ the coconut oil,and a follow up with diluted baby shampoo -no tears type of course. Will research more on this too.

Tinny, it'd be fantastic if they do have some coupons for the Ocusoft, thank you for checking. When we can find them we use coupons, for supplements, foods that work on our diet lifestyle and so on.

Thanks for checking about the coupons, and hanks again to each replier, for ideas and tho's on this.

I've had issues for years, and tho't it was just the Bart' situation and Lyme, didn't think about the Mite situation being out of balance.

I didn't know that the little critters have a three week life cycle either. That's very interesting, now wondering about the Parasite aspect and Moon phases and such. Often i can tell when it's close to full moon.

Hi <<<<< Bluelyme >>>>>,

Thanks for the link, quite interesting info' in it. The little beasties have gotten out of balance,or out of Check as TxC' would say.

I'd love to try Ivermectin[ Stromectol ], but I doubt that Medicaid would pay. they seem to be rejecting many tests and such just out of hand.

I keep a good coconut oil around, and so I might try that carefully of course. TxC' is going to also check pricing in a couple of stores as to the Ocusoft. The normal place we get such things was spendy.

Adding this here in case it helps.

New website, BLINK HEALTH- https://www.blinkhealth.com - allows you to pay online then go to your local pharmacy to pick up your medications at a "lower price”, with some medications being free.

Total cost may be lower than your standard co-pays, just tell pharmacist to use BLINK HEALTH instead of your insurance if that is the case.

First time customers get a $5.00 off coupon to use in addition to the other savings. No memberships involved.

(I put two meds in just to test the site- one med was normally $18.99 a month- with BLINK it is free. The other was $586.00 normally and there was a $20 discount.)

For more cost saving tips and a list of websites to get lower priced medications see the Medications and Supplements link here at the HELP FOR YOU page.

Thanks to JB for sharing this information.

Silverwolf, i know you are not a dog, but I took my dog to the vet today and he got your same diagnosis!

The vet prescribed oral antibiotics and an elizabethan collar. Good luck walking around in that.

Hi <<<<< cottonbrain >>>>>,

Please give your sweet dog,a hug from this Silverwolfi. Lol [Smile] , we have an Elizabethan type collar for our little guy [Chinese Crested/Min-pin...] But I'm not sure I could get it on around my neck. [Big Grin]

While researching, I can remember thinking... I most certainly do not have Mange LOL!!!

It makes my eyes rather uncomfortable, they tend to feel dry and itchy/gritty. It isn't so bad when I wear a little bit of make-up,as I clean the make-up off very carefully. I am sure that helps kill of the little ornery critters.

Well, TxCoord and I are Trekkies so hey... I'm a Dax maybe ...LOL. Hmmm, Demodex...a Dax?
maybe we're on to something?!?

Thanks for the reply, hope doggy starts to feel better soon.

Wolfie, my vet also thought it was important to dry out the area around the eye.

So, I'm not sure that coconut oil is a good idea, though it may help bc of its antimicrobial qualities.

I just remembered that our other dog had this too, and the vet gave her an ointment containing antibiotics and steroids -- it worked great -- I would guess that you could use a similar product every other day and apply sparingly so as not to absorb a lot of steroids (?).

THis one claims that it is not systemic: 'Because little, if any, of Cortisporin cream is absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.'

Is the Ocu-soft working?

Hi <<<<< cottonbrain >>>>>,

The Ocu-soft helps but I use them sparingly, I also use a low cost[dollar store] make-up remover that is gentle to eyes [I cut the little cloth in about 4 pieces and it is still bigger than the Ocu-soft].

I am very allergic to any kind of steroid product, so I don't use it. If they ever had to use it to save my life they'd have to detox me quickly and carefully.

I've had to give our dog a little steroid pill from time to time, and I have to wash very carefully after touching it.[ I don't take chances: severe headaches, diarrhea, and nasty mood swings/personality change are not worth it to me.].

I haven't tried the coconut oil near my eyes, I'm a bit leery of anything not made to be in the eyes. I'm careful with make-ups and so on. Even tho' i like to wear a little sometimes so I don't look so ghostly pale.

Hubby TxCoord had a stroke in his eye in 2007,and lost all sight in it, so I help him when he drives. His other eye functions well, but we just don't take chances.

I can tell if I forget to clean, around my eyes, as they get dry and matter-y fairly quickly. Not pretty with make-up, the tearful look doesn't become me.

Gotta tend the laundry for now, hope your dog is better soon. Thanks for the reply!
