Hi all. It has been a long time since I have posted here. Thankfully, I got well after being very ill for a very long time. I have lingering symptoms, but nothing that keeps me down. Recently, however, I decided I really want to get in shape. I am healthy and want to stay that way! So I joined a gym and have been going faithfully. The only complaint I have is that I am herxing pretty uncomfortably... like when i was treating with antibitoics. It is not so bad that I can't function, and I can even still exercise. But it does at times feel like I have been hit by a truck! I know it is probably true that I have lyme/coinfections which has possibly been relatively dormant...and now, it seems to feel like it is coming back, or flaring up. I am wondering- if I keep exercising, will this pass eventually? I feel so good about the exercise and I hate to have to stop for a herx! I don't want to get sick- I just want to feel good! Any insight? I was thinking that maybe if I keep at it, all the bacteria would eventually just die off- that is probably unrealistic, huh? I appreciate any insight. JL

As you feel better - in one way - I wonder if that would be those delightful ENDORPHINS and, if so, is there another physical activity that would also increase endorphins and not be aerobic?
One that could be done out of doors or in a place ventilated with natural fresh air, open windows?
Can you check in with a LLMD for their advice? They would be best able to consider all the variables.
If this is lyme / TBD rearing, aerobic activity could make it much worse and more tenacious. Until you have a LLMDs assessment, it would be safest to avoid aerobic activity - or at least slow it WAY down if it's an movement that is calling you deeply. Walk, don't run, for instance.
I assume you are eating enough and include protein, good carbs and good fats. Maybe a snack both before and after exercise would help if you are not doing that. HYPOGLYCEMIA - or glucose one direction or the other too far?
ADRENAL SUPPORT is important, too. MITOCHONDRIAL SUPPORT, as well. You can find detail about those and other suggestion for what might help here:

Thank you, Keebler. Your responses helped me to get to the point of health that I am currently at.
Outside air IS probably a really good idea. It is frustrating because I am FINALLY in a routine, one that I can keep, one that fits into my INSANE schedule.
I would hate to stop going. I feel better because I am getting in shape- I have more energy, for one...aside from the "herx" or whatever I am experiencing.
I will start with adrenal support. It has been a while so I am not sure where to start with that- I will do a search on this forum.
Don't want to have to call the LLMD, because it has been so long that she would need to see me...and that is so much money, travel etc.

Keep up the good work, exercise is very important, BUT, start slow, don't get into a lot of aerobics, especially if you feel like maybe herring, but do step up your herbals and antibiotics if any prior to exercise, to hit the bugs. eXercise, massage, lymph drainage - all these are body modalities and can bring bugs out of the recesses. Don't worry, just supplement, take the meds and herbs, works best as you are getting the blood flowing, and these can get to the bugs better than before when you were inactive.

One of the reasons ( besides Lyme) that some people get Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME is because of any one of several coxsackie viruses. A lot of these viruses cause a polio like illness and though the patient seems to recover their muscles are still packed with viral RNA.
So one of the really ill informed types of therapy for CFS is to force people with viral rna in their tissues to exercise. They found the same thing with post-polio syndrome -- exercise therapy does not work, it makes these people worse, they relapse and are set back. Their ONE dependable therapy is REST.
So I was reading about how the rhesus macaques also had borrelia rna in their tissues after abx therapy and how no one knew if it was "viable" or not, in other words whether it had the power to infect or cause illness.
I think it might.
So i agree with dal123 -- no aerobics -- it can lower immunity -- and start an herbal protocol that won't allow the bugs to get a toehold again. I'm doing Buhner -- his maintenance protocol after one year is just japanese knotweed and cat's claw.

THank you all so much. I have not been taking ANY herbals or antibiotics for a long time.
I actually don't think I ever used herbals, aside from cat's claw briefly years ago. I am afraid to get even sicker...afraid to "rock the boat."
But maybe i should start with herbals. Do u recommend cat's claw AND japanses knotweed? Won't these cause a herx too? Again, I am so afraid of getting sick again.
I have been doing quite a bit of cardio but also some weights. I will reduce the amount of cardio, for sure.
Keebler, I will check out that link for additional information.
I have considered myself as close to healed as I thought possible from lyme and friends. Now I can tell that those critters are hiding out and exercise is making that clear.

People herx on all kinds of things I guess. But JK is a good one because it stops Bb from being able to manipulate the immune system so it can come out to play. Cat's claw does the same thing by raising NK57.
You could take one or both. Buhner says JK is essential and it's in most of his protocols.
