Has anyone ever tried this, cholestryamine for the systemic treatment of mold?

My llpa just put me on it and I'm not sure I should bother. I can't take any meds until four hours later, which seems almost impossible to fit them all in if I take this stuff before breakfast and again before dinner. It will mess up my entire schedule.

Also, the number one side effect is constipation...no thank you. I wish I knew before I picked it up at the pharmacy...$125!!!

Anyone? Thanks!

It caused me diarrhea.

Not everyone has constipation on it.

I think I took it in the middle of the night.

It's the primary treatment for mold, don't underestimate its value.

I couldn't tolerate it because it increased the Lyme symptoms, so we had to work around it in my mold treatment. Cholestyramine is probably the best way. Set alarms for your meds so you can fit it in.

It's really hard to fit things in. Do what you can. Even one dosage a day will help.

I had to quit taking it due to stomach distress. My gut hated it and so did my gallbladder.

Mold allergy testing and desensitization has worked miracles for the Lyme patient in our family, whereas cholestyramine didn't help enough to make it worth the inconvenience nor the cost.

Not all allergists are the same though. Mainstream allergists (AAAAI) use different testing methods. We did not have the same good luck with their allergy treatments for mold as we have had after finding an allergist who is a member of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM). Here's a link to the AAEM's free doctor referral lists for each state:
https://www.aaemonline.org/find.php

The AAEM will be holding a one-day workshop on molds and mycotoxins at their upcoming annual medical conference next fall in San Diego, CA:
http://aaemconference.com/fall/workshop2.php

Incidentally, the AAEM will also have a concurrent one-day workshop on LDA/LDI (Low Dose Allergy/Immunotherapy) for Lyme and related auto-immune conditions, led by Dr. Ty Vincent, MD who is the originator of LDI, an innovated treatment for Lyme disease.
http://aaemconference.com/fall/workshop1.php

For cost-effectiveness, I would recommend that you consider finding an AAEM doctor instead of (or in addition to) relying solely on cholestyramine as your sole treatment for mold sensitivity.

For additional questions, contact me by PM. Our family's Lyme patient values her medical privacy on-line; therefore, I am not free to discuss any details of her case openly on the internet -- except to say that she has maintained her Lyme remission, medication-free, for 7+ years(!) -- following 3+ decades of undiagnosed chronic illness, starting in early childhood.
