After having Psychiatric issues ( bipolar), a little before I got diagnosed with Lyme, I was stable on a mood stabilizer.

Now after starting IV Rocephin about 2 weeks later, I am not mentally stable. No psyc drug is working. My LLMD Psychiatrist is worried.

Anyone have similar stories? Advice? you can Pm me also.

Thanks

20 years ago (before properly diagnosed) I was MISdiagnosed with bipolar before it became clear that lyme / TBD & adrenal dysfunction was the real issue. And that doctors who knew nothing about those just wanted to slap a label on me.

Psych symptoms, in my view, indicate a serious irritation to neuro cells / fibers / functions. But there are other things involved, too.

I say all this in hope. But my thoughts jump around a bit, sorry. Too much noise outside to think.

But, oh, that reminds me. If your inner ear / balance system is even a little bit off kilter (as lyme and lyme Rx can do that) - this can also cause all kinds of mood reactions. And it makes perfect physiological sense. I just can't explain it, though, I'm too dizzy right now.

Sometimes, a particular nutrient is deficient. Some Rx can make that more profound, too. Many deplete magnesium. and the right kind of magnesium, in divided doses 3-4 x a day can really help in some cases.

But all the different psych. brain / mood Rx - a parade of different trials - caused me even more trouble because (turn out I'd later discover) I had PORPHYRIA and these were very toxic to my liver, hence to my neurological system, too. I could not process them so it became a terrible situation.

Lyme also makes everything harder. And anytime any Rx is added, that shifts it all again. So man Rx can be very hard on the liver / kidneys.

Cytomel (a T3 Rx) did cause major mood drops every afternoon when it wore off (that drug nearly killed me). When I got on a natural thyroid with T3 & T4 (NatureThroid), that afternoon depressive crash resolved but it took time.

Is liver & kidney support adequate? (When the liver is stressed, there WILL be psychological results, always.)

Adrenal & Thyroid support, too?

There are many aspects at work here but I find that those two areas are major to consider with any kind of mood issues or the like.

Glucose stability as well. A "low carb" diet was terrible for me. What I really needed was a lot of GOOD carbs, the right kinds of carbohydrates. and this included black & wild rice, quinoa, millet, etc. along with good vegetables, protein and good fats.

Be sure to start you day out with good protein. Protein can really help keep mood steady.

Going gluten-free helped a lot, too, as gluten can cause inflammation and anytime there is inflammation, the brain is going to be affected, as will mood, IMO.

What also helped was getting off of aspartame / diet sodas. The excitotoxins in food additives, I thought, helped me to wake up - but then they would drop me like rock.

Berberine is so very helpful to my mood balance - it that makes sense since it's so helpful to the liver and to circulation, etc. Just about any good antioxidant can be a good help to mood / brain / neuro issues.

So, after this resource directory of sorts, the human element:

is there a good friend / family member who could come and be with you for a while, non-judgmental, helpful with some practical tasks (gathering groceries, cooking - for it all starts with good food)? And planning is key.

Is there someone who could help gather things to explore outside of your world right now? You might not feel like a trip out yet, if you do, get out to at least see some trees, flowers, art, beauty.

Funny movies, travel DVDs, game, music . . . .

You could assign different friends / family with "Beauty of Life Curator" - another "Best Chef" etc.

Massage? A professional massage would be great yet rarely in anyone's budget. The right friend might be able to help with certain aspects. Even just a foot / hand massage can be very helpful to mood.

Maybe you need to drop the IV Rocephin of a while and try something different if you've been on it for two weeks and are not mentally stable.

I was not mentally stable and the first time I received treatment, Minocycline brought me back to normal mental help within one week.

The second and third times, Cats Claw, Resveratrol and Arteminisinin brought me back to normal mental health.

And I really feel that Cats Claw made the primary difference for me and worked within two weeks. My LLMD helped me with the herbal route the last time. Cats Claw crosses the blood/brain barrier and kills the bugs in the brain.

I hope this helps. It's terrible not to be in control of your mind and Lyme causes that outright. Any time I took antidepressants for Lyme depression, they backfired on me. With one I developed neuropathy in my feet. With another, it did nothing for me and when I stopped taking it,

I couldn't sit still at all for three days. I have found a wonderful mood enhancer - NAC (N-Aceytl Cysteine) that stimulates Glutathione which makes the body produce more B-12 and has a lot of other health benefits.

I started taking it as a binder and found when I read Amazon Customer feedback that most people take it for anxiety. It's great.

not sure what treatments you have had for lyme and cos, but after my first 2 months of abx my anxiety and crazy psych issues got so much better. ....after bart treatment specifically my psych issues went awawy! but they were really bad while I was herxing. like I wanted to hurt myself and the dog and other people, even those I love. it was not good.

but that is al gone now. I hope you find answers. I know it is scary. keep searching and don't give up. there were many times when I thought I would end it and day s where I was sure woululd be my last, crying in despair, but I ws determined and fought hard and it was worth it.

when you are in a bad place, tell yourself every minute if you have to , that it WILL pass and you will have a good day soon.

Now I am on Rifampin, Minocycline, azythromicin, and IV Rocephin. My psyc stuff didnt get worse till I started the Rocephin.

When you herxed mentaly did you also physically herx? or just psyc herx?
