Hi all

My Galaxy IFA Bart test states:

bartonella henselae: >1:256
The test doesn't include either igg or igm.
So how does one know if there is a current infection or just past exposure?
Would this result of either >1:256 igg or igm be a positive for an active infection?

Advice welcome!
Thanks

I think with that test the titer goes down with treatment. It should be within normal limits unless there is an active infection.

Thanks Jordana makes sense.

Anyone else know for sure about how to interpret the galaxy ifa Bart test?
Or what >1:256 means?

From Mayo Clinic website:

"Normal serum specimens usually have an IgG titer of <1:128. However, 5% to 10% of healthy controls exhibit a Bartonella henselae and Bartonella quintana titer of 1:128. No healthy controls showed titers of > or =1:256"

http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and+Interpretive/81575

LymeNet won't let me copy the entire section that gives the normal values, equivocal, and then the positive. So, read the Mayo webpage to understand more.

The symbol < means less than. The symbol > mean greater than.

So, with a result of >1:256, you are positive for bart. I think you were not given all of the information from your test. It should say IgG, for example. And, see this quote from the Galaxy Lab site:

"How can I better understand my results?

We provide a detailed test interpretation sheet with all reported results"

Here is another relevant page from Galaxy Labs:

http://www.galaxydx.com/web/pdfs/BartonellaProtocol.pdf

So, your doc will probably test you again later to see if your result goes down with treatment.

Thanks for the info, Much appreciated. It does not include IgG, just the value.
Hence my confusion.

From what I take from the responses and info above it is safe to assume >1:256 is positive for a current infection?

How long have you been sick for before taking this test? Did your insurance cover it?

I've been having symptom since November 2015(so about 5 months)
I've also tested positive for Lyme and babesia.
The 'llmd's' in my area (and I believe yours if you are in NJ do not accept insurance at all.
I've seen a couple and can offer advise on which Dr to goto and which to avoid. If you already don't have one that you are working with.

Thank you maz1. I`ve tested ART positive for Bartonella twice, but never had a blood test amd was never treated specifically for Bart. Was looking into Galaxy, but cannot afford the out of pocket expense. I suspect I have had Bartonella for possibly 30 years. Good luck with everything. Hope you feel better soon.
