I've been taking 250mg of Flagyl 3x per week for the past 9 days.

Something's happening. Not sure if I'm herxing or just crashing, but something's definitely happening.

I have this rash on my arm from it that I believe is a yeast overgrowth on my skin. It's in other special places too, so I'm pretty sure it's yeast. Lotrimin helps it some.

I was thinking about maybe trying a pulse or lowering my dose. Just wondering what everyone else has done.

Thanks guys and gals.

250 mg three times per day for 60 days. That's how I beat lyme disease.

Try to work up to taking it for 14 days continuously every day. That is what Burrascano says it takes for it to really work.

Take your time working up to it. Everyone is different.

Wow, TF. 60 days and you were better??? I'd love to see even just a hint of improvement after 60 days. Hoping and praying my experience can be similar to yours.

My new doc likes it to be taken daily at the highest dose you can tolerate that doesn't cause more than a minimal amount of herxing. I think I might be starting to majorly herx.... It's hard to tell.

Do you think tinidazole would have the same effect? Were you taking anything else TF?

Yes, I think tini would be pretty much the same.

I took high-dose amoxicillin plus probinecid along with the flagyl. I did that for 30 days. Then, the flagyl alone for another 30 days.

Please know that when I went to this doc, I had been treating lyme for 2 years with JUST amoxicillin. The doc said to me, "Congratulations. You have turned all of your lyme into the cyst form."

So, I think that is why my lyme treatment only took 2 months. It was 2 years of junk treatment and then 2 months of great treatment.

My doc then went on to treat bart and babs. He thought he would have to go back and retreat lyme again at the end, but that wasn't necessary in my case.

I became symptom-free in months with his Burrascano-type treatment. That was over 10 years ago now and I have never relapsed.

But, just know that he told me at the very first appointment that I would NEVER get rid of lyme if I didn't do the Burrascano exercise requirement.

That is one continuous hour of weightlifting every other day--a full body workout each time. So, I did arms, chest, back, abs, buttocks, and legs every other day. I was so weak at first that I could only lift an empty bar about twice and do 2 leglifts with no weight on the bar.

You see, my major lyme symptom for my 10 LONG years of illness was extreme muscle weakness. I could only stand for about a minute, hold the phone to my head for 30 seconds max (I timed it), and could not hold my mouth open to have my teeth cleaned.

So, when my doc said I had to do 1 hour of weightlifting, he may as well have told me to go climb Mt. Everest.

I used my husband's weights in our basement. I had him go with me to help give me moral support. My beginning sessions were me recovering from walking down the steps. Then, finally doing one bench press without any weight on it, then gasping for a few minutes and trying again. Then laying there crying. Same with the legs. So, that performance took about 10 minutes to complete.

But, as I persevered, I was able to do a little more over time. After a few months, I could lift very light weights for 30 minutes continuously. It took even longer to get to the 1 continuous hour.

But, it was amazing to me that this was happening. How could this be happening? How was this working? I started to get strength, some endurance, and even muscles in my arms. It was like a miracle.

My last symptom to leave was this neurologically-based extreme muscle weakness. (It was the first to come, so it was the last to leave.) It was fantastic.

Another cured lyme person on LymeNet agrees that the credit goes to the full-body exercise. She did pilates instead. I think it was "sixgoofykids."

I could see that this form of exercise really DOES boost the immune system. Years after getting rid of lyme, I went back to this form of exercise when I was catching every illness that came along. As soon as I started it again, I never got sick with anything again.

But, don't do this daily. Burrascano is very clear about that. Every OTHER day max.

So, I did all 4 prongs of the Burrascano protocol:

high-dose combos of antibiotics
anti-yeast diet
supplements and herbs as needed
the special exercise requirement (weightlifting for one continuous hour every other day, a full-body workout each time)

Hopes this story helps a lot of folks on this forum. I love telling it!!!

Your story certainly just helped me!

I was sitting here wondering if Flagyl might kill bartonella. My new doc thinks it can kill Babesia. I'm getting the frontal forehead pressure really bad, and the all-over brain pressure really bad, so I was hoping maybe I'm killing everything with this flagyl.

Flagyl kills many things. Many things. My doc said it kills parasites and many other germs. That is why so many people who don't have lyme can't take it. It makes them totally sick!

I was given a week of flagyl a few years ago when I got C diff from an ENT's treatment of a sinus infection. I thought I would die! It was tough to be on it that one week.

So, evidently it kills C diff and many other things.

If you can persevere with it, I believe you will be very happy. If you can't, don't kill yourself trying, however. It could be that in a few months, you could take it with no problem, even if it is giving you a horrible time now. That has been my experience.

Why did the doctor prescribe the probenicid?

It is used for gout to increase uric acid secretion, so how did that relate to the lyme treatment?

Also, how did the Dr. treat the Bart and Babs, following the treatment for lyme.

I've read that you have to treat all coinfection, and thyroid disorders, parasite etc, but not clear on whether what order that takes place in.

See p. 18 of Burrascano.

"Probenecid may be prescribed in combination with certain antibiotics (such as penicillins). It increases the levels of antibiotic in the blood, which helps the antibiotic work better." (WebMD)

As I understand it, the probenecid stops the filtering out of the amoxi in the blood, so it basically increases the short half-life of the amoxi. This is essential if amoxi is going to be effective for lyme.

I will send you a private message regarding the rest of my treatment, which basically followed Burrascano's Guidelines.

The order in which you treat the diseases is flexible. Most good lyme docs will consider the patient's symptoms and then treat first the one or two diseases that are bothering them the most.

So, if you have mostly babs symptoms, the doc may treat lyme plus babs first. My doc treated lyme (one month), then lyme plus bart (one month), and finally babs (11 months; the med also hits bart).
