Is it a Lyme drug?

Or a Babesia drug?

Just read over on Huffpo Dana Parrish interviewing Kristofferson's wife - she said he improved on Doxy and Alinia.

Is there research? or is it anecdotal?

This page says cystbuster and anti-parasite. I don't know where that info came from, though. I also think my doctor initially wanted me on it for Babesia? But we couldn't get it through insurance.

On PubMed there's articles on nitazoxanide and: H. pylori, giardia, C. diff, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, cornoavirus...lots more. So maybe it's a pretty broad actor? Though, I didn't read all those articles just now, so I don't know if Alinia actually works on all those.

Rosner loves it. It definitely hits something in me. I think mainly protomyxzoa but if it's hitting other stuff too thats great.

"Nitazoxanide: This drug is typically sold under brand name Alinia, but much more affordable brand names can be purchased from overseas pharmacies.

Nitazoxanide is considered to be very useful by a large number of practitioners and can target numerous kinds of protozoan, including Babesia. It is also useful for other types of parasites, and is considered to be a "cyst busting" drug by some researchers, so it can impact Borrelia, too. For these reasons, it is one of my favorite drugs in this chapter, and it has broad application for Lyme disease patients.

As if the above-mentioned benefits of nitazoxanide weren’t enough, the drug also impacts biofilm formation. This was shown by research published in Oxford’s Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, in a study entitled, "Nitazoxanide inhibits biofilm formation by Staphylococcus epidermidis by blocking accumulation on surfaces." Several other studies also demonstrate nitazoxanide’s inhibition of biofilm. And lastly, nitazoxanide has even been shown to inhibit numerous viruses, including hepatitis. Peer-reviewed studies have demonstrated this anti-viral effect.

So, yet again you can see the diverse and much-needed benefits of anti-parasitic drugs. To summarize, nitazoxanide is used to kill parasites, Babesia, Borrelia cysts, viruses, and to disrupt bacterial biofilm. It’s no wonder that Lyme patients, who are often afflicted with most or all of these problems, can feel so much better as a result of using nitazoxanide. Nitazoxanide is one of the most multi-talented and broadly applicable drugs available to Lyme sufferers, and I consider it to be one of the most important new treatments presented in this book."

Hmm. I looked for it on pubmed and there's no research connecting to Lyme or Babesia.

I know there's a lot of anectodal success from Lyme patients but I wish we knew more about what it's doing.

I've done that a couple times, Lymetoo.

Seems to help, just no research on why.

I think that's because there's comparatively little research on Lyme in general.... [Frown]

Can't direct you to research but Dr. H. prescribes it as part of Babesia tx and protozoa. I found it especially helpful as part of rotation with other antiparasitics.

It is part of Dr. K's parasite protocol (or at least it was, haven't checked recently).

It also helps keep away C-diff, so it is a nice pair with abx.

Would be nice if it weren't laced with aluminum.

What a shame (aluminum). That's all people need is something that crosses the BBB and also puts aluminum in their brains.

I wonder if Dr. K is still using it in his practice? He says aluminum is one of the biggest toxins of our time.

I'm getting ready to start working on parasites but I'm a little nervous. My hexes have been pretty bad lately.

Blood parasites for sure i heard that dr k loves it except in the cases of flukes as it can chase them into safe zone of liver ...i heard it does have effect on viruses.

It got rid of my giardia with neem and art yay...but it hit the toxo/proto in a way that makes me extremely emotionally liable ..like barrel in the mouth moreso than usual...

i made it to 1/2 a 500 2x a day..my llnp loves it as a cyst buster ...she is bummed as lyme is eating her spine too

Thanks blue. I don't have alinia yet -- I was contemplating doing the Dr. K collection, starting with biltricide.

When I took alinia it seemed to have an effect on my parasites that I don't usually see with other drugs but it was too strong on my body. In my 3rd try at alinia I couldn't handle to take it past the first dose. I imagine it can be useful if you could handle it though.

Jordana, I feel wary of the high dose of Ivermectin used daily for 2 weeks on Dr K's parasite protocol too. I have just taken my fourth dose (one every five or six days at half of his dose) and that is enough to make me feel 'strange' the day after.

I would check out your liver and kidney functions before embarking on that high daily dose, especially as Iver takes a few days to leave your system, so would be building up at his dose and frequency. In fact it is probably a good idea to check them out before starting that parasite protocol at all, as it is pretty brutal.

Well done on braving the coffee enema!!

Alina - is an anti parasitic. The clinical trial for approval was an intestinal parasite.

I know when our daughter was on it our insurer only covered it for two treatments and the treatments were only for 3 days (6 days total coverage). For the remainder of the treatment we ended up having to keep going to the pharmacy every 3 days and paying $75 each time.

As for hitting babesia I don't believe there is any evidence (no clinical anyway) in support but some of the LLMD's use it.

I think Dr K's dosages are too high. If you read the prescription recommendations for Biltricide and Ivermectin they want people to take one dose, once a YEAR, and the doses aren't that high either.

Ivermectin crosses the BBB...I don't think I'd do more than 12mg once a week.

The real and only protozoan medication is artemisinin, but it also hits the cyst form of Lyme better than tinidazole does. Problem is it stops working after a while.

Since I don't really understand alinia I probably won't take it. But taking dewormers in reasonable doses seems like it couldn't hurt.

I don't think Ivermectin is supposed to cross the blood brain barrier. Dr. K's protocol dose of 48mg a day seems like it could treat a horse. From reading It does seem like lower doses are safer and you also have to be careful about drug interactions. Probably don't want to try to make liposomal Ivermectin.

I've been taking 12mg a day and this amount does not make me neuro-herx like Albenzadole and Alinia (both known to readily cross the BBB) do.

"Ivermectin can be given either by mouth or injection. It does not readily cross the blood–brain barrier of mammals due to the presence of P-glycoprotein,[33] (the MDR1 gene mutation affects function of this protein). Crossing may still become significant if ivermectin is given at high doses (in which case, brain levels peak 2–5 hr after administration). In contrast to mammals, ivermectin can cross the blood–brain barrier in tortoises, often with fatal consequences."

"Since drugs that inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes often also inhibit P-glycoprotein transport, the risk of increased absorption past the blood-brain barrier exists when ivermectin is administered along with other CYP3A4 inhibitors. These drugs include statins, HIV protease inhibitors, many calcium channel blockers, and glucocorticoids such as dexamethasone, lidocaine, and the benzodiazepines."

Yay Jordana, congratulations on the coffee enema! How did you feel? Better I hope?

Even though alinia is laced with aluminum, I take it. At first it gave me a lot of yeast and I herxed hard on it. It reduces babs and proto symptoms fast. It does hit protozoans better than artemisinin (my experience).

I don't herx nearly as bad on it anymore either but I've rotated on it (Dr. K protocol) maybe 8 or 10 times, so it took a while to get there. Each time my head felt much better afterwards and I was able to tolerate taking it longer.

P.S.: Project's info (everything posted above) is spot on.

I didn't really notice much difference, but the herx level is lower than it was a week ago. But after that and the bath I felt pretty darn clean and fresh [Smile]
