I'm confused about the different types of Magnesium. Which one is best? There's chelated magnesium, magnesium citrate, buffered magnesium, Magnesium Oxide, etc. etc. I've been using Magnesium Oxide and wonder what type other people use.

I have been taking Epsom salt baths and it really DOES relax you! At least it did me.
Just make sure you rinse in vinegar or your hair will feel like a statue!!!
I also have found ReMag to be very helpful though it tastes a bit bad...
I too am trying to get my magnesium levels up and would be interested in other opinions!

- As foxy loxy notes, ReMag is one that several here find very helpful.
Unfortunately, magnesium oxide is the least helpful for the body yet the cheapest to buy. Magnesium glycinate or malate are good, as are some others here with articles that explain much more.

Thanks. I'm in the process of ordering Doctor's Best High Absorption Magnesium Elemental (Glycinate). The Magnesium Oxide that I've been taking just hasn't been enough. If I increase the dose, then there are digestive side-effects.

Just don't take large amounts of glycinate. It is high in oxalates.
I take a low dosage of Vital Nutrients Glycinate/Malate mixed.
I also take oxide for constipation.
I'm backing off my beloved ReMag because it now contains mountain ash berries and I'm sensitive to salicylates. I've been trying to use it in a spray for my body instead of ingesting it.
Many people like mag threonate. I haven't tried it.

Jigsaw Health's magnesium is a sustained release form of magnesium malate that I find the most effective of any I have tried. It does not have a laxative effect also!

For those who say they found one type of magnesium more helpful than another, how did you determine personally which one worked better for you? Did any particular symptoms disappear, or did you feel better in a way that you hadn't before?

I use transdermal magnesium oil spray from Ancient Minerals. If you're body is low in magnesium it will burn when you apply it. If your magnesium levels are fine, it won't burn.
When I first tried it, it didn't burn at all, so I thought maybe it didn't work. But later on in my disease when I tried it again, it burned badly, even though I was taking oral magnesium.
I just up the dose until it doesn't burn anymore. That way it's easy to tell if I'm getting enough magnesium or not. Works for me!

SLH516, I was lookng for a form that is supposed to be well-absorbed and that I could take relatively high doses of without causing me to live in the bathroom.
Additionally, I wanted it to be effective and have a longlasting benefit for leg cramps, which I have had a lot in the past.
The malate form has a reputation for being helpful for general body pain and I already knew from other brands of magnesium malate that it was pretty good on the bathroom front.
The sustained release technology though is what makes ithe Jigsaw Health product particularly helpful both in not causing dashes to the bathroom and also in sustaining the effect on leg cramps overnight.
