I know people sometimes worry about SJS with Bactrim and they take it for babesia. It used to be my goto drug for ear and bladder infections. I loved it, it was the fastest working, most effective thing for my pre-lyme problems.
However if you have chronic lyme and co-infections, especially if you have a southern tickbite, do everything you can to make sure you don't have Ehrlichia before you take it, or at least make sure it's been treated.
Ehrlichia can be chronic and bactrim can make it worse. Ehrlichia responds ONLY to tetracyclines and it has to be cleared since it suppresses the immune system and can cause severe heart, brain and bone marrow issues, and death.

Yes, Bactrim will make an Ehrlichia or Anaplasma infection worse, sometimes MUCH worse!!! It is not yet understood why.
ALSO, tetracyclines (Doxy is what's in the literature) are the first line of treatment for PATIENTS OF ALL AGES! This is emphasized even on the CDC's website. For difficult cases, Burrascano recommends Doxy and Rifampin, if I remember correctly.
A new study has shown that there is basically no risk to children's developing teeth even up to 5 courses (ten day courses?) of Doxycycline.
Furthermore, the CDC states that treatment with Doxy MUST be started upon even the SUSPICION of Anaplasmosis/Erhlichiosis regardless the age of the patient!
