I was treated successfully 8 years ago by Dr. C in FL. I was on 7 weeks of IV Rocephin/Tindamax and my symptoms when away for 8 years. In fact, I tested negative for Lyme in 2011.
Now, all of the sudden, my joint pain, night sweats, etc. are back with vengeance.
My doc put me on Doxy/Tindamax/Alinia today to see if I get relief.
I feel blessed to have had 8 years in remission but I'm scared that it's come back and treatment won't be as easy this time.
Has anyone else had the Lyme disappear then reappear a decade later?

Yeah, just now and it had been 11 years since round one! But I definitely got bit again. I had the rash and a bite inside. Could you have gotten bit again?
Sorry to hear your ailments are back!

A few differences, I wasn't symptom free in only 7 weeks. However after IV Vanco kicked my butt to the extreme, my body slowly recovered and got all those nasty toxins out.
I was at about 80% on some days 90% and living life. This lasted about 7 years until it slowly starting creeping back up on me with some of the same and also some new symptoms. It's actually been worse this go round than it was the last.
Dr C was also my doctor in Temple Terrace if we're talking about the same one. He retired and oh how I miss him.
But, no you are not the only one this happened to. And I do not believe I was bitten again. I never saw the first tick so I question if that's even how I was infected.
Granted I was never back to 100% symptom free, I maintained at a very good level for a long time to get sick again. My only reasoning is that you are never completely rid of all of this bacteria and something can trigger a drop in your immune system which allows it to come back with such a vengeance.
I wish you swift healing! God bless.

I don't think I was bit again. I'm in CO and we really don't have a huge tick problem, not to mention, I'm not outside hiking/camping much. More of an indoor person.
amberlin96, same doc! Love him. What are you doing for treatment this time? Who is treating you?
How sick were you when you first started seeing Dr. C? Did you do IV for months?

I also used to get lyme back. I'm 7.5 years lyme free.
I would do fast any treatment, aggressively at first, as you are dealing with a relapse.
if you hit it well fast, you may go back to remission again.
In these 7.5 years, I think my lyme menaced to come twice. But I treated since day 1 I felt it was maybe coming back... And then, it went backwards and never showed its teeth.
My daughter follows same pattern as me. She though had a one day symptom: meaning joint pain, tummy pains. I treated her from that exact day, with photons (that is our gun number 1), and she never complained of anything any longer.
She's like me, 7.5 years symptom free, except for about 2 days, when she got those knee pains back.
For us, only photons can let us symptom free for long. We only do that treatment if we think lyme wants to come back (about once every 2 years or less).
Before photons, we could never keep in remission for longer. And of course, we got often bitten too during warmer months. But we usually relapsed in colder months...
Just treat fast, and aggressively. If after 4 months the infection is still around, then you lower the pace.
I don't think chronic infections react well to aggressive treatments (own experience). I would go then low gear, I even find it works better, somehow.

Similar situation to yourself, completely Lyme free for many years.
Then I was bitten again and the symptoms came back. I could have easily missed the bite. It was a *tiny* nymph half the size of a pinhead. I only noticed because I was outdoors a lot and checking my body in a paranoid manner.
I would seriously consider the possibility of another bite. They are SO easy to miss.
Relapse of your original illness would be a distinct possibility if you had a weakened immune system caused by another illness, environmental chemicals, or a life crisis that pushed your immune system to a point it couldn't deal with the dormant, now awakening Lyme.
What difference does this make? Well. Either way, you still have to deal with it. But if you were re-infected, hold on to the thought that you will beat it again. For good.
