since i fell in the yard face down and snapped my neck backwards, I have been really sick.
I am having severe headaches, neck pain is awful, jaw and ear pain. tinnitus, numbness on right side, can't sleep.
it has been over a month. nothing helps. hot or cold, packs, showers, massage.
my dr would not do xray or mri. at this point I am thinking of jus going to er, dang the cost.
has anybody had whiplash? will lyme settle in neck now? my face is back to twitching and jerking at night.
I can do errands but I get fatigued fast and noises make me sick.
i hurt all over. thank heavens I'm retired cause there's no way I could ever work like this.

Do you have a chiropractor who could check things out for you? Ours will send us for an x-ray if she feels its needed.
It was much cheaper going to see the chiropractor first and then she could order the x-ray. No need to see the ER.

yeah my last visit to er cost 6 grand for four hours and that was only with bloodwork no ct mri nothing. luckily I only paid about a grand or so...whew....
I'm terrified of chiropractors. my sister went to one and he screwed up her neck royally. took years to get it right.
it just really hurts.....if it ain't one thing it's another.

Sorry to hear, randi. Aren't you on Medicare now? It should be a lot cheaper then. .. sorry .. I can't remember your age.
You at least need some X-rays. I've had two very severe whiplashes in my lifetime. I now have stenosis in my neck. If I'm careful with it, I do OK. You just learn to live with the pain.
I pray you are taking tons of magnesium to get those muscles relaxed.

This has happened to me. I felt very sick for some time afterward. Not just radiating pain, but dizzy, weird sensations, sensitivity to light.
It will get better but it can take time. I remember having trouble when I stepped off a curb, and if a car I was riding in needed to go down a bumpy road, I would get out and walk.
Ben Gay helped me and still does. I massage it in myself. And a drug called Baclofen helped too. It is an MS drug that cuts communication between the spinal cord and the muscles.
I have had a positive Babinski reflex and my neuro says that is from spinal cord damage in the neck. Also have spinal stenosis.
Once this improves- and it will- you will learn to move carefully naturally. I do Tai Chi and it helps.
I need a pillow if I ever lie down, like at the dentist. For surgery, my neuro wrote a note saying that my neck could not be bent back.
Good luck!

Do you have an urgent care office near you ?
A new one just opened near me,
I went 2 months ago. Took X-rays on premise. Was home in 2 hours.
Cost me 150.00$.
Plus, they take insurance..

I think you NEED that MRI for sure!! just found out about chiari and your symptoms sound like mine. and it can come after a trauma like that. please get that MRI
and if they say nothing is wrong after it don't believe tham becaseu from what I have experienced the radiologists and even neurologists know nothing about chiari. jsut in case you do have it.
and it is not rare even though they want you to think it is

I'm supposed to take a trip in april for awhile and I have to fly. trip will take about 2 1/2 hours flying there and back.
I worry aboutthe head pressure, tinnitus, and stress. I max out big time flying. almosthave to be sedated I'm so bad. a pilot's worst nightmare...
but cannot, cannot get out of it.
how do you travel with whiplash?

It is very common to take a sedative for air flight. I suggest Klonopin, or Ativan. Maybe Xanax. Benadryl can also help.
If you have inner ear issue Sudafed can help (with dizziness and pain) but can sometimes have a coffee-like effect.
You can call the airline and tell them you have inner ear issues or neuro issues or whatever you want to call it, and they will seat you accordingly. I got a seat in the very front row this way.
I do not really see how whiplash will cause problems with travel, other than keeping your neck stable. I don't think you need to worry so much. If you are afraid of flying, that is another matter.
If you purchased the insurance for cancellation for medical reasons you might be able to use that and take a train!

Maybe you could make an appt with a good orthopedic doctor. If there isn't one in your town, you could call and make an appt with an orthopedic doctor at the closest University that
has a Medical School. In my state, the best medical care to be had, is available through the medical staff at a large University. The professors see patients too and the interns are under the
supervision of the Professors. That way you wouldn't have to pay for an emergency room visit and you'd be in the hands of an expert in the field.
