Hi All,

I have Lyme (according to LLMD and test results) and possible co infections based on symptoms.

Lately I am having more head symptoms like crawling, some thing moving, burning sensation, dullness, dull pain, not able to concentrate and brain is not active etc.

All these symptoms are related to bart or babs?

What abx will give relief or cure from this head symptoms?

Also what herbs will help with these symptoms?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

It is not easy to separate lyme, bart, and babs symptoms because more than one disease can cause head pain for example.

So, in general, the false feelings, called neuropathies, of something crawling, moving, burning sensation are generally lyme whether the feeling is in the head or other part of the body.

Brain fog can be from babs or lyme.

Burrascano gives a long list of antibiotics that treat lyme. He also gives the names of a few antibiotics that treat babs and the ones that treat bart.

Any anti-inflammatory herb or a combination of them might possibly help some of the brain fog symptoms since they are generally caused by inflammation in the brain due to lyme.

The treatment for these diseases is not simple. That is why you need a good lyme doctor to decide how to treat.

Detoxify yourself as much as possible. That often can help with many symptoms. A good diet can also relieve symptoms to some degree. Burrascano lists helpful supplements and herbs starting on page 28.

Burning, dullness, not able to concentrate and brain not active are Lyme symptoms. You need treatment.

Also, I tested low in thyroid and when I went on Armour thyroid, one of the glandular forms of it, my brain was back! I felt present again. The doctor explained that my metabolism had slowed down. So that should be checked too.

I think these re likely Babs and/or Lyme. But babs is famous for causing head crawing sensations.

See this list of symptoms from Dr. A
http://www.gordonmedical.com/unravelling-complex-chronic-illness/babesia-like-organisms-bablo-consideration-signs-and-symptoms/

General BabLO Considerations:
◾Moves very slowly in its chronic form. Can take years to develop a clear chronic symptom pattern.
◾Affects the brain and head; any atypical or exaggerated symptom related to the head must be considered.

◾Can cause headache, occipital and/or frontal (especially behind the eyes), or the sensation of pressure without pain.
◾Most predominate symptoms are related to cognitive and memory processing.

◾Can cause severe mental health symptoms, could manifest as any diagnosis in the Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders – Volume Four (DSM -IV).
◾Sweating can remain a symptom in the chronic form, can be drenching, especially at night.

◾Little body pain except the wrist/hands and/or ankles/feet
◾Can have severe temperature instability, hot to cold, with the predominance to chill.

◾Patient can have heart racing (autonomically mediated) usually short runs of tachycardia or premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), often at night, with a normal cardiac evaluation.

◾Can have other autonomic nervous system disruptions causing shortness of breath (SoB), orthostatic hypotension.

◾Symptoms can be aggravated when present with other co-morbidities, metal illness, etc.
◾Symptoms can be aggravated by other functional metabolic disorders, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and especially menopause and andropause.

BabLO Symptoms :

Chief Complaint: Usually mental and/or emotional
◾Disabling problem with short-term memory, concentration.
◾Progressively disabling memory.

◾Difficulty with direction.
◾Gets lost in familiar place.

◾Difficulty with simple linear thinking.
◾Severe depression (can have suicidal ideation).

◾Fear! Fear!, Fear!, OCD, anxiety to panic.
◾Any symptom from the DmS-IV.

◾Pressure sensation (more than headache), occipital, crown and behind eyes.
◾Various sensations in the head, hot spots, numbness, crawling, crown tenderness.

◾Hypothalamic Dysregulation.
◾Severe sleep disturbance, delayed sleep onset and frequent waking, with difficulty falling back to sleep.

◾Weird dreams to nightmares.
◾Temperature intolerance, hot and cold with chill dominant.
◾Can have occasional fever, but usually can’t get warm.

◾Sweats, can be drenching, worse at night.
◾Mild fluid imbalance, overloaded or dehydrated.
◾Appetite swings, can’t get enough eat, or no appetite

josh, I have head sensations too. I don't have pain but VERY odd sensations that feel AWFUL!

I would definitely look into the babesia. Malaria medications in combination is what it takes to get anywhere. It can be tough to get rid of as in my case, but others haven't had too much problem!

Best wishes, I know how you feel! [Frown]

When considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods, because lyme is so very complex & unique, as are possible coinfections:

if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL ND (lyme literate naturopathic doctor) (or similar) who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -

- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present, and has completed the ILADS Physician Training Program (see: www.ilads.org )

so they really know all they can about the science of lyme . . . how lyme (& other TBD) act and what we can do about that in various ways. Proper ASSESSMENT of not just lyme but coinfectoins is vital. Someone trained by ILADS is best to assess.

Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.

When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.

For those considering complementary support methods / or other avenues entirely:

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/2/13964

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Herbal SAFETY: Interactions; considerations & reference books; etc.

BOOKS - Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

knowing which methods offer assertive & direct impact, which are only support and which are both. And when to use what, how to combine, & when to step back.

You can compare and contrast many approaches with links to articles, books, methods . . . .

Thank you all very much for your responses.

Started with couple of abx but meanwhile ran into other issues like kidney stones, gall bladder disfunction issues and stomach related issues. so stopped abx for last 4 months.

So Went to homeopathy and Integrative medicine and started taking some herbs for parasite cleaning etc. Its been a month now since started taking herbs. Started noticing more head related symptoms..

In dilemma whether I need to take abx along with herbs or try herbs for 3 to 4 months to see any improvement.

Thanks and Regards,
