An llmd prescribed me rifmapin on suspicion of bartonella, although no tests have been positive for it yet.

I had a hard time with flagyl after one day that I don't even take in anymore. I wonder if I'm likely to have a hard time on rifmapin if I take it.

Has anyone here used rifmapin and had good or bad experiences with it? Also I've heard it can cause signficantly increased heart rate, anyone know if this is a common side effect?

Thanks

I would strongly suggest ramping up slowly on it. Did the doctor give you an rx that easily allows you to do that? That is, smaller dosages that can be increased? (I'm forgetting the dosage right now). Plus, you can start with one dose per day for a few days or more, and add more when you see that you can tolerate it ok. Your could ask him/her to do that for you.

Rifampin is very good for Bartonella. However, lots of people do have side-effects and herxes, especially psychiatric. As in in getting hyper, insomnia, anxiety, etc. It doesn't happen to everyone, however. I felt like my finger was stuck in a socket until I got used to it.

Also, it interacts a lot with other meds, increases the effects of some, and decreases the effects of others, so something else to watch out for.

Rifampin was one of my favorite meds. It was one that I had no side effects with and really worked magic on my feet pain and peripheral neuropathy. Godspeed!

Ramp up slowly. I will never take it again.

Had SEVERE headache from hell for the 5 days I took it. It was horrid.

I had years of experience with migraines, but this was far and above that.

That's crazy Lymetoo. I plan to try half a dose at first to see if I can handle it.

My doses are 300mg per pill. I can spill out half a pill to start with half a dose even. The only other medication I'm taking at the moment is doxycycline though. So it would be rifmapin with doxy.

Doxy hasn't given me any side effects since I've been taken it. I'll try to give rifmapin a shot though. Once I have a few free day window in case I have bad herxes with it or anything.

Thanks

Just remember that rifampin in can have significant effects on other drugs blood level half lives. Especially if you take anything for anxiety or sleep. Just check with your pharmacist.

I had to start very slowly. It was a while ago but I think I started at 150mg and still herxed. it was tough to handle for me but did help to get rid of my constant daily migraines.
