Those of you sensitive to gluten - how does it make you feel if you get too much gluten?
Can it make you feel like you are having low blood sugar episodes? With shaking, jittery feelings.
Like your digestive system is 'blocked up' or moving very slowly? And then feeling toxic from things not moving through fast enough.

- Do you have Netflix? There is an excellent documentary about wheat there now. I just saw it and it speaks volumes, just volumes -- but in a very conversational and interesting manner of presentation.
Dr. Terry Wahls is one of the presenters and she is doing fabulous - riding her bike 20 miles a week, etc. She had been diagnosed with MS and - in her case - gluten seems to have been a major culprit.
I cannot imagine there would be a time when I would ever want even one bite of anything with gluten. Even a trace is like kryptonite to me.
I used to try to fool myself thinking I could eat spelt, rye or barley but they were equally dangerous for me. I also tried ancient wheat, Einhorn (sp?) and that was a no-go for me.
Same with some shampoos, body washes, lotions. I had to get rid of gluten in those, too and the film explains how others also found that out.
In fact, even a trace of gluten can set off a range of reactions in the brain for up to six months afterward for those who have trouble with gluten. PubMed is full of medical articles about this. Some links in with articles in next post.
I am happy, happy, happy to know what caused me so much pain, send me to the ER once and had me in a ball of pain many times.
In my case, as with many here, all that was on top of lyme / other tick borne infections so just avoiding gluten was very helpful but in no way enough to conquer lyme. But it may be impossible to get better with gluten in the picture - for some / many, I suspect.
But, even after I got off gluten, when I had a trace - unaware - it just clobbered me. Often, this would be in some kind broth with gluten as a hidden name.
I do have celiac but even some with non-celiac gluten reactions are featured in the film.

- Near the end of the documentary, they ask your question: "can I ever again eat wheat - or other gluten containing grains?" A nice discussion of that gives much thought about non-GMO, Organics, etc.
Bottom line is that it would depend on whether you have celiac or not -- and then whether you have a different classification of gluten issue.
Then, if someone is ill and especially if leaky gut is involved, it is really important to avoid even a trace of gluten until well into a good solid remission.
But, then, you may find that you won't even miss it. You will likely then be able to enjoy all kinds of fruits. I think it's also not necessary for all fruits to be avoided during lyme treatment. But that's another whole matter and my hands can't type mre.

For those affected, gluten can irritate the nerve "tree" all throughout the body in various ways. But I'd first be sure your blood sugar levels are where they should be.
Can you get a glucose meter and check? You could be having hypoglycemia - or hyper -- separate from gluten issues. You may be able to get a free meter and a few sample strips from the American Diabetes Assoc. Strips cost a lot but they often give away meters to those who need one.
Are you getting enough complex carbohydrates, and protein and fat all at each meal and each snack?
Some Rx and some herbs can cause changes in blood glucose levels, though most herbs are rather adaptogenic in that regard.
The supplement Chromium, can cause me to feel as you describe. Also sometimes brewer's yeast, bee pollen, B vitamins when not enough food consumed and zinc or niacin B3. -

I think there are all sorts of spectrum of reactions to gluten, from stronger to weaker.
It is not a nutrient, it serves for nothing, so you could drop it and see how you react?
My daughter had very strong allergies to it (extreme pain) to just feeling tired.
But now she barely reacts. The only thing I can say is that, when she consumes gluten, she catches all sorts of infections in school, like about 2x a month!!! and has to stay home for some days.
If she does not consume gluten, she will catch 1-2 colds a year, and that is it.
She no longer has lyme.
Last month we've been around traveling, and she ate again gluten during the trip. This month, she's fighting her 2nd infection now. So I suspect, gluten lowers her immunity, somehow...

My stomach will hurt or burn from it. It can and does block my digestive tract. It's likely from the glyphosate, if not the gluten itself.
I rarely get diarrhea from it. I do my best to stay far far away from it!
