are there any binders, similar to charcoal, that go thru the blood brain barrier and bind toxins in the brain?

thank you

Most binders bind toxins in the gut, where the liver dumps them. My doc says cholestrymine is good for cognitive problems. I'm gonna give it a try soon.

I just restarted cholestrymine. I have been taking a significant amount of herbs (Buhner Lyme and Bart) to help rebuild the immune system, but have not improved much on the neuro side yet.

So I am going after parasites and back on the cholestrymine to mop it up. I have a 60 day supply so that should be a good test.

All the Best,

MattH

That reminds me, knotweed does reduce my anxiety quite a bit, and Buhner says it removes toxins too. So perhaps it does have the potential to remove toxins from the brain.

How about Nutramedix burbur? It used to help me when I had toxin issues.

Pinella is another one I used with burbur for detox. I feel that the burbur helped me more, but the pinella is for the brain. I see they have a tincture with both together now.

for me, the only things that made real difference were chlorella (great amounts a day), MSM (same) and bear garlic (not great amounts but enough).

Together they feel synergistic.

Everything else, maybe helped, maybe not, but this trio helped me out of lyme and lyme herxes, I'm more than sure.

Activated charcoal was only minor...

Stuff that mobilizes, such as alpha lipoic acids, phospholipids, EDTA, zeolites, or other known binders as chitosan, DE barely did anything either.

But I guess, each case is a case, depends on each person and infections + toxins.

The trio above, I still use TODAY, more than 8 years after lyme, basically against candida and for keeping healthy.

I don't think things necessary need to go through the BBB and that could actually be not a good idea for some things. We require the BBB to be a good guard to keep out lots of things.

Still, there are some things that do and are helpful such as allicin (see Zhang's book on that).

The main point I hope to make, though, is that it's still mostly the work of the LIVER & kidneys to filter out "waste" and then there is less "waste" that circulates and hampers the brain or the heart, etc.

1. Focus on assertively & comprehensively addressing infections that create the toxic overload &

2. support liver & kidneys [key antioxidants . . . & this also includes diet, exposures to scents / chemicals, too]

I believe that any thing we take as a supplement to help decrease toxic waste should also be of nutritive value. Cholestyramine is not - and it can pull out essential nutrients and leave us depleted.

While it can have some benefits, and many do well with it . . . just be aware that if it does not work for you, it may not be a good fit. It is not for everyone.

3. SLEEP is essential to help the brain "let go of" "filter" waste. Best to avoid any Rx that can pose liver toxicity issues as then the liver has to work so much harder, etc.

The activity of good sleep has its own natural brain waste filter.

4. address inflammation

(antioxidant rich liver / kidney support is a key in that as well as avoiding certain things that can contribute such as gluten, etc.)

Included in liver support links. As Brussels mentions it, for easier reference:

Allicin is one of the major componets (too tired to check sp.) and, I do recall having read in his works that it does cross the BBB.
